Kristina Hoff, Ph.D., originates from Charlotte, NC, and joined SHU in 2022. Prior to SHU, she attended Catawba College in Salisbury, NC, where she was a four-year member of the women's soccer team, majoring in sport management and minoring in business administration.

After completing her undergraduate degree, she attended the University of Georgia (UGA) in Athens, GA. During her time at UGA, she was a graduate teaching assistant and researcher while earning her master’s and doctorate degrees in sport management and policy and a certificate in interdisciplinary qualitative research.

Hoff's industry experience has pertained mostly to intercollegiate operations, such as assistant director of operations for the UGA’s varsity equestrian team and UNC-Chapel Hill's varsity women's soccer team.

Outside of work, Hoff enjoys spending time with her three nephews, taking her dog, Charlotte, out for walks by the water and supporting her favorite sport teams.

She has also overseen the sport management Internship course and co-created and taught a study abroad course, ‘International Sport: Business, Media and Culture,” in Rome, Italy. She also serves as chair of the Welch College of Business & Technology’s Student & Pedagogy Committee and faculty advisor for the sport management club.

Awards & Affiliations

Hoff was awarded the WCBT 2023-2024 Teaching Excellence Award for her innovative, inclusive and impactful pedagogical approaches.

She has active affiliations with the North American Society for Sport Management, the European Association for Sport Management and the European Academy of Management. She is also an inaugural faculty member of SHU's Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.

Research Interests & Grants

Hoff's research interests pertain to innovation and organizers of mega-sport events, such as the Olympic Games and FIFA World Cup. Her work has been published in top journals within the field, including European Sport Management Quarterly, Managing Sport and Leisure, the International Journal of Sport Management and Sport, Business, and Management: An International Journal, among others. She also has a published entry on researching sport events in the Routledge Encyclopedia of Sport Studies.

In addition to her publications, Hoff has presented much of her research at academic conferences domestically (Colorado, Georgia, Minneapolis and Los Angeles) and internationally (Austria, Canada, Chile, Ireland and France).

Moreover, she has been an invited article reviewer for European Sport Management Quarterly, Case Studies in Sport Management, Sport in Society and the Journal of Olympic Studies.
