Debbie Danowski, Ph.D., is an associate professor of communication & media at Sacred Heart University. Her research focuses on representations of eating and addictive behavior in advertising. Her book, “Happy Eating” and Food Addiction in American Advertising (Lexington Books) is a ground-breaking analysis of the addictive and eating disorder behaviors in ultra-processed food advertisements. She has also been published in Media Literacy and Academic Research, Popular Culture Studies Journal, Journal of the Communication, Speech & Theatre Association of North Dakota, Journal of American College Health as well as One Size Does Not Fit All: Undressing the Performance of Bodies in Popular Culture (Lexington Books) and Women, Wellness and the Media (Cambridge Scholars Publishing). Danowski is also the author of five popular books about food addiction and emotional eating as well as an upcoming academic book about health halos in ultra-processed food advertising.
