Catherine Carrigan, M.Ed.

Catie Carrigan has been at SHU since 2020 but has been teaching mathematics since 2007 since graduating from Auburn University. She began her career teaching at a Title 1 middle school mathematics in Alabama. In 2010, as a Noyce Teacher Leader Fellow, she helped lead teacher development workshops and mathematics camps to underprivileged students in Australia. From 2012-2020, she instructed both at public and private higher education institutions in Connecticut. Most importantly, she believes that all students can learn math, critically think, reason, and problem solve. Most of her courses are centered around Inquiry-Based learning with problem solving activities for students to build their own conceptual understanding. It is her goal for all students to grow an appreciation of mathematics and see it as a tool to further themselves in their future endeavors.
