"What I like the most about Sacred Heart University is the sense of community. I have made great friends, connections and role models who are like minded individuals I can count on for anything.
My professional goal is to work in marketing for Broadway. I am involved in Residential Life (RSA in Christian Witness Commons), the Theater Arts program, and the Welch Corporate Structure Marketing Team. In this program, I get to gain real-world experience as a staff member for the business school, making detailed flyers, running the media accounts, and participating weekly in professional meetings that will prepare us for the future. I am also a member of Dance Ensemble and a Welch mentor.
I would like to thank John F. Welch for teaching me more about myself and my ability every day. This scholarship has allowed me to expand my horizons, gain real-world experience and solidify my love for marketing and what I would like to do as a future career."

"I really like how everyone comes together at SHU. When I am not understanding something in the classroom, my peers are immediately there to help and that is something special you don't find at other schools.
Being an accounting major along with a management major, I hope to work for one of the Big Four, but eventually, become a CFO or consultant for accounting. Something that is truly special about this school is the network; my peers and I have the ability to choose from top companies where we want to start our careers, when many other students from other schools struggle to find that sense of security.
I really like being a mentor to 20 freshmen and helping them pave the most productive path possible and telling them about my challenges so they can make smarter choices. I am also the director of human resources in the Corporate Structure team.
This scholarship means a lot to me because it gives me the ability to graduate with a degree from the Jack Welch College of Business & Technology; without it, it would have been a struggle to have been able to complete my undergraduate and my MBA next year. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to network and find my way so I can map out my career!"

"What I love most about the SHU community is that I always feel at home on campus because everyone treats me like family. I have made so many lifelong friends and I will forever be grateful for all of the opportunities and people Sacred Heart has brought my way. I have also met numerous standout and personable professors who go out of their way to make sure I understand lessons and am actually enjoying class. Lastly, I have participated in activities that provided me with unique challenges to help me grow as a student, an athlete and an intellect.
By combining a marketing major with a graphic design and data analytics minor, I hope to find myself in the advertising world, or some field where my ideas have an effect on how people perceive not only a specific product, but also the world in different and more open-minded ways. I think that with a combination of my experiences, the different people I have met and the characteristics instilled within me, I can make a positive contribution to society. On top of this, I would love to use my creativity to start and run my own business someday.
It is hard to choose a specific experience that I enjoy the most because I try to stay very involved on campus. I am part of two fraternities: Beta Theta Pi as VP of programming and Alpha Kappa Psi. I enjoy the unique activities, brotherhood and experiences that come along with my involvement in these organizations. I also play Club Football in the fall and rugby in the spring. My freshman year, my football team won the national championship, and last spring break, my rugby team went on a tour to Ireland.
I also make sure to be active in the community because it is important for me to help others less fortunate than myself. I started a street cleaning club, Cleaning to Restore, which has more than 40 members, and I encourage my brothers to attend cleanups as well. I went on a service trip to Houston, Texas, during winter break my freshman year as a part of Operation Blessings to help with relief from Hurricane Harvey. I am a part of the Corporate Structures Marketing team where we work to keep students updated and in the know about upcoming events that we have helped plan. Lastly, I would love to get the opportunity to study abroad for two weeks with some of my closest friends over a break this year.
Thank you so much for this opportunity; I am so grateful for it. Receiving this scholarship provides some relief for me and my family, as I have a younger brother who currently attends Sacred Heart and a sister who is applying to attend next fall. It is an honor to receive the John F. Welch Scholarship!"

"My favorite part about being a member of the Sacred Heart Community is definitely the ability to pursue my passions. SHU provides all of the support and tools students need in order to reach their goals in both their personal and academic career.
My goals coming into school were to excel in the classroom, secure a job at one of the Big 4 accounting firms, and to enjoy my limited time at Sacred Heart. As a senior graduating in the spring, I can proudly say I have accomplished all of my goals with the help of the facility and staff. The accounting and finance majors gave me the perfect opportunity to reach my potential in the classroom, secure a position at PWC in Manhattan and be able to look back at my college career with no regrets.
As the president of the Business Administration Club, I enjoy the JA for A Day community service trip that we participate in every year. JA for A Day is where the members of the SHU community go to a local elementary school to teach the classes the basics of business.
I am thankful that I had the opportunity to take full advantage of Sacred Heart’s innovation and growth. I am also very grateful that my potential was recognized and for the great support system that helped me grow as an individual and a professional."

"What I love most about SHU is the fact that everyone is so close. Being on a relatively small campus has helped me to find familiar faces almost every single day. SHU has truly become a second home for me.
My professional goal is to work towards being head of human resources for a company one day. A management major as well as an HR minor will help me reach this goal.
Outside of the classroom I enjoy working for the SHU Student Union. I am currently a summer conference assistant there and will be a manager in training this fall.
I am immensely grateful for your gift to help further my education. My family has struggled financially since the sudden passing of my father in 2017, and you have helped us more than I can ever thank you for."

"Being at SHU made me realize that you can always find something to be a part of. People are very welcoming and there are so many opportunities that are accessible. There is always something happening on campus, which makes you feel more at home. The investments that SHU makes in its students are evident everyday, from having many menu options to making sure every student has equal opportunities. I would have no issues recommending Sacred Heart to anyone interested in the school.
My end goal is to work for the NFL, more specifically the financial department. Being able to start off my freshman year with Intro to Business really opened my eyes to the wide variety of business and entrepreneurial opportunities. My finance major has now given me a further opportunity as I was accepted into Corporate Structure, which is a part of the Jack Welch College of Business & Technology. As a rising sophomore, I feel I have maximized my freshman experience in the business school to date.
I was a member of the Equestrian team during my freshman year. I plan to join a sorority in my sophomore year to create more friendships and be a part of a lifelong sisterhood. However, I also plan to study abroad, as I recognize that in the business world I need to be globally aware.
Firstly, it is a great honor to even be considered for the scholarship. I am humbled and forever grateful for the financial support that has been bestowed upon me. I cannot thank the Jack Welch College of Business & Technology enough for all the opportunities that it has afforded me to date. I look forward to excelling further in my collegiate career. I will forever be grateful to Mr. Welch for my time at Sacred Heart and for my future financial career."

"The best thing about being a part of the SHU community is how welcoming everyone is. From the moment I stepped on campus I felt that everyone wanted to include me. I also love how helpful everyone is; any problem that I may have, I can easily find several students or faculty to ask for help.
My professional goal is to become a CPA and the accounting major will help me to prepare for the exams and be able to perform the responsibilities my job may require. The finance major will also help me to better understand the business world.
I most enjoy playing for the Club Hockey Team. It's a nice relief from school and I get to relax with other students who may not have the same major as me but have similar interests.
Thank you very much for your generous gift. I am thankful for this gift as it is allowing me to go to a wonderful school and be a part of an amazing community."

"The SHU community is not professors, administrators, and students; it's a family. We support, encourage, and grow with each other. Living hours away from home is not easy, but after being part of the SHU community I have two homes now.
I aspire to become a CPA in the next two years. I hope that my management skills will leverage me in the accounting field, and I will change the stigma that accountants are boring. I'm on my way to be the least boring accountant there ever was!
My favorite SHU experience was my study abroad in Luxembourg. SHU gave me the opportunity to see the world from another lens. I grew professionally and personally during my time abroad and will carry that experience with me forever.
I am thankful to Mr. Welch and his family for giving me the opportunity to achieve my goals. He believed in me and I am the young businesswoman I am today because of him. I will always be a Pioneer long after my time at SHU is over."

"I love the close-knit community and how I can genuinely get to know my professors at SHU. Even if you have a professor only for one semester, you can develop long lasting professional relationships with them. I would be a completely different student if I went to any other school. My professors have continuously challenged me both inside and outside of the classroom so that I can be prepared for landing a full-time job after graduation. Also, it truly feels like home when you can walk anywhere on campus and know a familiar and friendly face.
I've always known that I wanted to work in the finance industry. My minors of mathematics, financial analytics and accounting, in addition to my finance major, helped me learn that I want to work with numbers and solve problems in a future career. Having these minors helped me land an internship this past summer that dealt with financial analytics and was client-facing. My career path is to work towards a consultant in the finance industry.
I most enjoy being a member of the Big Red Club CrossFit team. I joined the team at the beginning of my freshman year and fell in love with CrossFit. The team has taught me what it is like to constantly set goals and work hard at them, no matter how many times you fail along the way. This translates to my life as a student because I know that no matter how many times you don't succeed in an exam, job interview, etc., as long as you persevere and continue to keep working at that goal, you will reach it.
I also enjoyed my two-week SHU In Dingle study abroad experience. I can confidently say that the trip was the best two weeks of my life. It was my first time going to Europe, and I fell in love with the beautiful country and culture. I could not get over how friendly and conversational the locals are, and what a simple life they live. It made me take a step back and realize that landing a top job in NYC is not everything; life is about enjoying the present and loving all the people around you.
I am so very thankful to Mr. Welch for choosing me to be a recipient of your scholarship for the past three years. It has helped me and my family make my wonderful college education at Sacred Heart University a reality and it is truly a blessing. In addition, being able to call myself a "Jack Welch Scholar" on my resume and in interviews is such an honor. He is a huge inspiration to so many different people in the world of business, including myself, so receiving this scholarship has made me want to always put out my best work if it is going to also have his name on it.
Again, thank you so much for supporting my education and making it possible for me to be the best student I can be in the Jack Welch College of Business & Technology."

"I love being a member of the community because as soon as I got to campus, I was received with open arms. Sacred Heart truly is my home away from home and I am proud to be a Pioneer. I feel a strong connection with other students and professors. All of my professors have been so kind and always willing to do anything they could to help me in my classes.
I am a management major with a minor in honors. I am not sure what I want to pursue in my career after I graduate but being an honors student has connected me with amazing professors, some of whom have been mentors to me. I am currently an intern at MetLife where I have had the opportunity to explore possible career options.
I have just joined Student Ambassadors and I cannot wait to share my love for Sacred Heart with incoming students. I love being able to help and guide others, so this role seemed perfect to me. I am also a new member of the Jack Welch Corporate Structure and am proud to represent Sacred Heart and help my classmates any way that I can. As a member of the Corporate Structure I will have a special opportunity to support the College and my classmates in a unique way. In my role, I will be helping students to build their resumes and support the other branches of the group. I will not only be able to grow in a professional capacity myself, but help other students to highlight their talents and give them the confidence to explore their careers in a professional capacity.
Thank you so much for this amazing opportunity to grow as a student and to make my mark at Sacred Heart."

"What I love most about SHU is the friendly and welcoming atmosphere. Being part of a small university allows you to make more intimate connections with the people around you, and everyone is willing to make those connections. I have truly been able to find a second home here and make connections that will last a lifetime.
When I graduate, I'd like to be doing market research and analysis within a public health organization. The Jack Welch College of Business & Technology has allowed me to double major to work towards my goal. My marketing major is teaching me about both consumer behavior and market research. It's very interesting and beneficial to learn both the psychology and statistical side of marketing. My economics major is crucial to learn not only how the economy functions but also the statistics that go along with it.
Outside of the classroom, I am a member of the Student Wellness Education and Empowerment Team (S.W.E.E.T.) We are the student branch of the Wellness Center and we help promote wellness on campus. I enjoy creating the Stall Street Journals, wellness newsletters that are hung up all over campus in the bathrooms. I am also in the choral program. I am in the chamber choir 4Heart Harmony and Gospel Choir. I've had great experiences with the program, some of which include singing at Radio City Music Hall and going to sing in Italy over spring break. Lastly, I am the vice president of the Marketing Department in the WCBT Corporate Structure. I am enjoying getting real-world experience leading a team and running a social media account.
Thank you for this generous scholarship that is allowing me to continue my education here at Sacred Heart University. I come from a large Italian family and my parents and I appreciate the opportunity. I could not thank you enough."

"I am drawn most to SHU by the tight-knit community and the sense of comfort that comes with it; SHU truly feels like home. Every person I have met is welcoming and friendly, and you always feel like you belong. I especially love being a part of this community because these aspects of SHU are easily recognizable by anybody who steps onto campus.
Ultimately, my current and most relevant goal for the future is to be a successful business owner. However, there are other aspects of the business world I want to explore first, including marketing research/advising, and hospitality/resort management. As a marketing and management double major, I am beginning to develop various skills to make me a more effective manager, such as behavioral patterns and effective problem-solving tactics. In addition, I am learning how to properly analyze a company to identify and solve problems.
I am currently an Orientation leader, as well as a First-Year Experience assistant, a Student Ambassador, and the student manager of JP's Diner.
I'd like to express my overwhelming gratitude for the opportunities this grant will provide me moving forward in my college career and future endeavors. It's reassuring to know that the work I've done up to this point is recognized, and it's a privilege to use this award to further develop my business skills within the Jack Welch College of Business & Technology."

"Sacred Heart is a home away from home. Everyone is so kind to each other and genuinely wants to make the campus a better place. Words cannot describe the impact that this University has had on my life. No matter what you enjoy or like to do, Sacred Heart offers something for every single student. I will most certainly miss it!
Knowing that I want to enter the commercial real estate field, choosing finance and management as my majors within the Jack Welch College of Business & Technology has prepared me for both the financial and managerial sectors of the industry.
Outside of the classroom, I am president of the Class of 2020 and a Senior Ambassador in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. Additionally, I have worked as an Orientation leader and am involved in Student Government, Campus Ministry and Peer Ministry.
Words cannot describe how thankful I truly am for Mr. Welch’s generous and gracious scholarship. This gift has allowed me to pursue something that I love and am passionate about -- business. In my lifetime, if I can make a small fraction of the impact that Mr. Welch has made on people throughout his lifetime, then I will have had a fruitful and successful career."

"My favorite part of being a member of the SHU community is participating in so many different clubs and activities. Through this, I get to meet and get to know such a wide variety of people on campus.
My professional goal is to become a marketing manager of a major fashion company. I absolutely love fashion and what it can do for people. When I was young, I was incredibly shy and I expressed myself through what I wore. Having the opportunity to work in marketing in the industry, I could help spread my passion for fashion. The majors I have declared have helped me work towards this goal tremendously. Every class related to my majors has given me the ability to look at real-life situations and be creative. I enjoy learning from my teachers who have worked in the industry and share their experiences with us in class.
I enjoy all of the outside activities I am involved in but the most unforgettable one was my study abroad experience. This summer I traveled to Milan, Italy, and took a fashion branding class. We got to go on company visits and see magazines, textile companies and so much more. Milan is a driving force of fashion and I absolutely fell in love with it during my time there. It was a hands-on learning experience the entire time, and we all learned so much.
Thank you for donating and allowing me to receive this scholarship. It is such a big help for my family and I cannot begin to tell you how thankful we are."

"I find most students at SHU to be highly motivated and interested in pursuing their passions. I really do think scrappy is a great adjective to describe the student body, especially the business students that I spend most of my time around.
My history minor has helped me greatly in my pursuit of a finance major and a job in finance. It gives me practice in connecting dots and the causes and effects of modern events.
My study abroad semester in Luxembourg was fantastic. I learned and personally grew more in that semester than any other semester."

"My Welch Scholar project has been the restructuring of the Student Managed Investment Club (SMIF) offered on campus. SMIF is a club designed to provide students with hands-on experience in financial markets, investment management and valuation. Working with alumni and investment professionals, club members learn about the investment management process and portfolio construction techniques and use this knowledge to manage a small portion of the University endowment. Members conduct sector analysis, analyze potential investments, develop equity research reports and propose potential investments. Using this research, members will have the opportunity to pitch stocks that they believe have a strong upside.
Being a Welch Scholar is important to me because I was able to have the complete freedom and creativity to help the Jack Welch College of Business & Technology through a project that is unique and something I am passionate about. As my four years at SHU come to a close, I have realized the importance of giving back and providing the stepping stones for future students to continue to grow. My Welch Scholar project has given me incredible experience in leadership at the same time that it has provided a strong club for finance students who are passionate about a common topic."

Jack Welch’s goal-oriented personality, ability to self-start and commitment to excellence are traits required of Welch Scholars. Jack Welch has made a lasting impact on this business school, and it is our mission as Scholars to continue the academic and professional development of students here at SHU."

"I have been accepted into KPMG's Masters in Accounting with an Emphasis in Data and Analytics program at the University of Southern California. Sacred Heart's relationship with the Big 4 allowed me to be a part of this. This scholarship has allowed me the financial independence to put my time and effort into helping create an excel certification class for Sacred Heart. I would not have had the opportunity to develop the relationships with some of the most incredible professors at SHU without this scholarship. Being a recipient of this scholarship was truly one of the best things that happened to me in my four years at Sacred Heart University."

"My Welch Scholar project consists of a scholarship fund called Skate With Heart. I teamed up with a non-profit organization, Diversify Ice Foundation, that helped me create a platform to focus on the mission of providing financial backing for underserved children and families all over the country who want to be a part of the wonderful sport of ice skating! We are currently still fundraising on GoFundMe for the scholarship and have already raised over $500 towards the goal of $2,200. For this campaign, I have monitored the GoFundMe itself as well as managed promotions. When the fundraising concludes, I will help Diversify to choose from the pool of applicants. My hope is that Skate With Heart will benefit recipients for years to come.
Being a Welch Scholar is important to me because it gives me a chance to be my own Pioneer. The thought of supporting children who might not have had the opportunity to learn how to ice skate could possibly become the next big thing. I want to make a difference in their lives. It is the perfect way to conclude my time at Sacred Heart, to give back to the community that has given me so much these past four years."

"For my Welch Scholar Project, I have worked with the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), which is the world's largest HR association, to align the Jack Welch College of Business & Technology’s human resource minor curriculum with SHRM curriculum guidelines. As a result, senior students interested in HR and who meet eligibility requirements are able to take their SHRM-CP before graduating and entering the workforce. Through my project, I also organized and moderated a SHRM special speaker event for undergraduate students. I also formed mentor programs for undergraduate students interested in HR and graduate students who are enrolled in SHU’s master of strategic human resource management program.
Being a Welch Scholar is important to me because it has given me an opportunity to give back to the WCBT, which has supported me tremendously throughout my four years. This opportunity has not only helped the WCBT gain more recognition through its alignment with SHRM, but it has also helped me reach many accomplishments and gain real life experience that I have been able to speak to in interviews for full-time positions. Through this position, I have been able to help guide, support and inform undergraduates like myself about the exciting career opportunities within the HR field, which is a very rewarding feeling!"

I believe my classes have adequately prepared me for real life experiences and have opened doors to different career opportunities. Greek Life and business clubs have allowed me to grow outside of the classroom and find other students who share common interests. For example, the Fed Challenge Club taught me how much of a passion I have for economic research and macroeconomics. "I am a marketing student at Sacred Heart University. Coming into college, I knew what path I wanted to take. Ultimately, I want to work in a field that I love, which makes my brain automatically think of cosmetics. Currently, I am working on a project to promote the use of cruelty-free products to college students. I have always loved animals, thus I hold this cause close to my heart. Supporting cruelty-free cosmetic and skincare brands saves hundreds of animals from pain and suffering. Our society is currently flourishing with amazing cruelty-free cosmetic products, ranging from both high-end to more affordable options. In my YouTube videos, I promote a wide range of products, however, I try to pick products that offered at lower price points. I highly support cruelty-free brands such as Marc Jacobs, Elf Cosmetics and Morphe. My ultimate goal would be to grow my channel into something that could end up being my career in the future."
