About the Endowed Scholarship
The Joan M. Heybruck Community Service Endowed Scholarship was created in 2008 to recognize and honor Joan M. Heybruck's commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. This scholarship supports students who major in Social Work, engage in meaningful community service and are entering their junior or senior year.

"I came from a very close knit high school community and never thought I'd feel the same sense of family once I got to college, but SHU provides the most friendly, welcoming, and accepting environment. In times of hardship, we come together to support each other, and in good times we celebrate each other. My major in Social Work and Minor in Psychology have offered the perfect blend of classes that support my professional goal of becoming a social worker in an inpatient psychiatric setting after pursuing my Master of Social Work at NYU. My placements at an alternative high school and at a healthcare facility working with adults with chronic mental illnesses and other disabilities have exposed me to more than I would have ever imagined. One experience outside of the classroom that I most enjoy is my job as the Senior Resident Success Assistant of a freshman residence hall. I love being able to make the building feel not only like a place to sleep, but also a place to enjoy living. This position allows me to constantly give back, and I love that more than anything. I am also a Student Ambassador; nothing brings me more joy than giving a prospective student a tour and making them love SHU as much as I do. I can't thank the donor of this scholarship enough. I am so grateful for your gift that has given me the opportunity to spend my four years here because I couldn't imagine my college experience happening anywhere else. Thank you from the bottom of my heart!"
