"I am so proud to be a part of such a close community that strives for the best for everyone. The school has a sense of love and care for the community and many other places.

My professional goal is to become an elementary school teacher. My interdisciplinary studies major will enable me to teach all subjects. I will soon declare a minor in psychology so that I can use my deeper knowledge to help kids in many ways.

I play club lacrosse and am part of two other clubs, Love Your Melon, and the Education Club. I do my work study through volunteer services at an elementary school afterschool program.

I want to send my gratitude to the donor who allowed me to receive the scholarship. This gift means so much to me and my family. Support for my education will allow me to have the profession I dreamed of as a child. It is such an honor to be one of the few people who receive this scholarship. Thank you so much for helping me and donating!"

"The Isabelle Farrington College of Education provided me with the best education and multiple opportunities to get experience in the teaching field. I'm looking forward to coming back and earning my master’s in teaching. I love how Sacred Heart treats you like family. It’s a warm, welcoming place to pursue your education.

After graduating from the master’s program, I hope to go back home to Long Island and find a job in a local elementary school. My major of interdisciplinary studies and my minor in speech language pathology have both given me experience and knowledge that pertain to my field.

I have been playing soccer since I was three years old. When I started looking at colleges during my freshman year of high school, I fell in love with this school, team and overall atmosphere of what Sacred Heart offered in the athletics department. As a student-athlete, I did not have much free time. Now that soccer is over, I look forward to enjoying everything else Sacred Heart offers during my final semester.

I would like to thank the donor personally for choosing me as one of the recipients of the Sandra Lynn Nobili Scholarship. It is such an honor and it really helps my parents financially. Being chosen to receive this scholarship has made me feel that my hard work and determination is paying off. I can't express in words how thankful I am!"

"I love Sacred Heart because of the sense of community it brings to me. Everyone is always welcoming, willing to help and happy. I have met so many new friends who have already become like my family. It gives me a warming feeling because Sacred Heart is truly my second home.

Since I was in first grade, I have always wanted to be a teacher. My major is interdisciplinary studies, which is Sacred Heart's elementary education program, with a minor in psychology. Throughout my time here, I have volunteered at a local Bridgeport elementary school through the Education Club, which was fun because I was able to work hands-on with the students! The Education Department is always welcoming and willing to help in any way they can, which makes me love Sacred Heart even more!

In addition to the Education Club, I am a member of Best Buddies. The Education Club is a great way for me to connect with other students who have the same major as me and make new friends. In Best Buddies, I am able to work with people who have disabilities. This club has made a huge impact on my heart.

I would like to say thank you to my donor(s) for allowing me to receive this scholarship; I truly and greatly appreciate it. I cannot wait to fulfill my dream of becoming an elementary school teacher. Sacred Heart has given me so many opportunities and I will never forget them. Thank you so much!"

"I love how close the Sacred Heart community is. I can’t walk around campus or into a class without seeing friends and people I know. I like how everyone, including the staff, looks out for each other by offering extra office hours before a test or holding the door open as you leave a building.

I am a declared interdisciplinary studies major, which means I will be a certified elementary school teacher in grades 1-6 in the state of Connecticut. As an educator, I want to be able to help my students, their families and the community. I want to be a mentor for my students and help them grow, not just in their education but also as individuals. I want to be able to help their families in any way I can.

I am currently a member of the Phi Sigma Sigma sorority on campus. For the year 2018-2019, I was on the executive board of the sorority and held the scribe position. I am now public relations chair. I had the incredible, life-changing opportunity to study abroad for six weeks this past summer in Rome, Italy. It was the best and fastest six weeks of my life and I wish I could go back tomorrow!

I would like to thank you for your generous and gracious donation to the scholarship I have received. Coming from a single-parent home and being the youngest of three, I appreciate it. The scholarship has also made me work harder and want to be and do better. It helped me realize that my accolades so far have gone noticed and it made me want to achieve more and do more for the College of Education, the community and myself."

"Sacred Heart is such a beautiful campus, it brings me joy. There isn't a single place on this campus where I feel I don't belong. Everyone here is so welcoming and inviting and I’m always met with friendly faces.

I want to be an elementary school teacher and through the program I am able to learn the ways of teaching as well as find volunteer opportunities to better help me understand my future career path.

I love Greek Life and am a member of Chi Omega. I am also involved in club soccer. These two activities keep me busy and constantly making new friends.

I appreciate the generous gift you have given me. With this scholarship I am truly able to achieve my full potential while being at this university. Your generosity allows me to continue to grow in this program and blossom into who I'm meant to be and who I've always envisioned myself becoming."

"I love so many aspects of Sacred Heart, but the most influential one has been the people because they have turned it into a second home for me. This includes all the friends I have made, the professors who I can count on and the staff who are always ready to assist me. Sacred Heart is an amazing community to be a part of because everyone is so kind and welcoming.

I aspire to be an elementary school teacher, give students a quality education and provide them with essential knowledge to become future leaders in our world. I am majoring in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) and minoring in Italian and Spanish. My STEM major will help me incorporate technology and computer science within my lessons to engage students. I have taken education courses, which have taught me how to make lesson plans, the importance of language and literacy and about the United States education system. My minors of Italian and Spanish will help me communicate with bilingual students. It will allow me to include them within activities on a daily basis in class.

I enjoy doing community service, such as volunteering in various elementary schools. I am president of UNICEF at SHU and vice president of Education Club. I love traveling and have even studied abroad in Dingle, Ireland, to learn about the Irish education system and will be studying in Rome this semester!

Thank you so much for awarding me this scholarship; I am honored to have been chosen as a recipient and am beyond grateful. As a result, I can focus on succeeding and doing my best.  Additionally, this investment that you made with me will not stop here. I promise to pay it forward and make a difference in the world through my teaching. I truly am appreciative of this generous scholarship and cannot thank you enough!"

Christine Thorp student recipient for the Isabelle Farrington scholarshipChristine Thorp '22

Hometown: Wallingford, CT
Major: STEM

"I love the friendly atmosphere of Sacred Heart University. Everyone is willing to help those in need, and I am beyond thankful to be in such a supportive community. I love the opportunities that SHU provides as well. I have had the chance to try a new sport at the D1 level, make a plethora of new friends through clubs and organizations, as well as step out of my comfort zone by traveling the world.

My goal is to become an elementary school teacher. As a STEM major, I have the opportunity to learn the content needed to become a successful elementary school teacher, while adding an additional STEM foundation. This will allow me to extend more knowledge to my students.

My two favorite experiences at SHU were trying a new sport through the rowing team and my study abroad experience in Dingle, Ireland. Through the rowing team I got the chance to find a new passion and find a close-knit group of friends that I would otherwise not have met. Studying abroad for two weeks taught me ways to become a successful teacher through a comparative Irish and America education course. It also allowed me to dive into Irish culture and explore another part of the world.

Thank you so much for allowing me to have the best possible experience at Sacred Heart University. This scholarship has allowed me to do more at SHU and get the most of my college education. I have had the ability to grow as a person while receiving an amazing education that has not only benefited me, but will also benefit my future students."

"From the moment I walked onto campus, I knew SHU was where I was supposed to be. Not only do I love the campus itself, but I also love the people. Everyone is very kind and welcoming and we truly do have a very special community. As a future educator, I am very pleased with my decision to major in Psychology because it has further enhanced my knowledge of the brain and our development as human beings. It has also helped me to understand children more and I feel as though it will greatly benefit my career as a teacher. I am now the President of Psi Chi Honor Society and am also in Psychology Club. SHU offers so many opportunities to grow outside of the classroom and there is truly something for everybody. Thank you so much for this incredible scholarship. My family and I are truly so grateful. I am honored to be the recipient of this scholarship. Thank you again."

"What I love most about being a member of the SHU community is the small class sizes. I like to be on a first name basis with professors rather than just being a number in a large crowd. I also really appreciate that professors provide office hours for extra help in courses. My professional goal is to receive my Masters in elementary education. I feel that my Psychology major is beneficial for this career choice because it allows me to explore the behaviors and development of children. I am a member of the Sacred Heart Dance Team and I feel as though this was the best experience I will take away from Sacred Heart as an extracurricular activity. It gave me the opportunity to become involved in school events as well as community service events. I am beyond grateful for receiving the "Isabelle T Farrington Scholarship." Thank you for awarding me with a scholarship so that I could have one of the best experiences of my life through SHU's academics, campus environment and extracurricular opportunities. I am beyond appreciative. Thank you again."

"Sacred Heart University offers a great environment for learning. It has relatively small class sizes, which allow for individualized instruction from professors. My professional goal is to be a high school history teacher. My history courses have provided me with valuable content related knowledge. My education courses have given me hands on experience and taught me how a classroom operates and how to successfully facilitate learning. I really enjoy going to Sacred Heart’s sporting events as well as making use of open gym nights to play basketball with friends. Studying abroad has been an interest of mine as well. I would love to be able to study abroad as I feel it would provide a whole new perspective on my courses. I would sincerely like to thank you for your generosity and for awarding me the Isabelle T. Farrington Scholarship. I will continue to work my absolute hardest throughout college and my future career as an educator. This scholarship assists me financially and allows me to focus solely on my academic material and becoming a better teacher."

"It is hard to chose one single thing that I love most about SHU because I truly love the school so much. I love the fact that the community is so loving and caring and can always come together. I truly feel as if I am home when I'm at SHU and I am so proud to go to a school that puts such a strong emphasis on community. My professional goal is to be a secondary education history teacher. I declared history as my major last spring and this past fall I was accepted into the 5 year education program. I am a member of Delta Zeta sorority and a member of the Clean to Restore Club. Both of these organizations push me to be a better person and help the community. I am currently studying abroad in Rome and it has been one of the best experiences of my life. I cannot thank you enough for the scholarship that you have given me. This scholarship has helped relieve the financial burden of college, and has even given me the opportunity to study abroad."

"I love Sacred Heart University because the campus atmosphere is very welcoming and accepting towards everyone. SHU has allowed me to challenge myself and take on new opportunities. Because of SHU, I have really grown as a person. I want to become a high school social studies teacher and as a history major, I have been given such great opportunities by the department to dive deeper into my passion. I have been able to study abroad in Luxembourg and attend conferences at other universities in New England with the history department. The education department is also great at providing hands on experience in the classroom. I most enjoy Greek Life and my two week study abroad experience in Luxembourg. Also, I am on the Executive Board for my sorority, Chi Omega. I am so thankful for your scholarship because it has given me the opportunity to work towards my dreams. Coming from a one income family, your scholarship has really alleviated some of the stress of paying for college. My father, a military veteran, is out of work and your donation came as a relief. Thank you for providing me with the chance to succeed."

"What I love most about the SHU community is the overwhelming about of support you get from others. My professional goal is to pursue my dream of teaching and support young ones and their imagination as they grow and learn. What I most enjoy doing in my free time is community service. I even spent over 300 hours volunteering in a classroom throughout high school and the beginning of my college career. I also love exercising because I am able to move my body and relieve my stress. From working around 35 hours a week waitressing, and carrying a large work load at school of 16-18 credits I did not have enough money to pay for last semester. The morning I woke up and saw the email about being awarded this scholarship, I was so ecstatic that I did not have to take out yet another hefty loan under my name. Because of your generous donation to my education, I can continue to work my hardest at both work and school, and worry less about the bill. I was able to pay off the rest of my bill this semester, and hope to be able to do the same for semesters to come thanks to you!"

"I love how Sacred Heart University is a home away from home and everyone here is so welcoming. I love that I get to say that I am a Pioneer because it is one of the best communities to be apart of. My main professional goal is to become a teacher of the deaf. I am an Interdisciplinary Studies major with a minor in Speech Language Pathology. This major and minor will help me become a certified teacher, understand my deaf students and help them succeed in life. I am very involved with Habitat for Humanity and went on a spring break trip last year to Dade City, Florida. I am going on another spring break trip this year to help build houses in Hanover, Virginia. Thank you so much for this scholarship. It is because of your help that I can attend Sacred Heart University, a place I can call my second home. The weight of how I would pay for my education weighs on me everyday and with your help I have that much less to worry about. I really appreciate this very generous scholarship and cannot tell you how much it means to me. I am very blessed and grateful for this. Thank you again!"
