Alumni Association Scholarship Fund

The Alumni Association Scholarship Fund was created in 2012 by the Sacred Heart University Alumni Association to support an incoming or continuing undergraduate, or graduate student enrolled full-time at the University. Priority consideration will be given to a child of a SHU graduate, a grandchild of a SHU graduate, or a sibling of a SHU graduate.

"One of the things I love most about the SHU community is how friendly people are. You can sit next to someone you have never met before in class and become friends. Someone almost always smiles or holds open a door.

I am an English major with a minor in journalism. The classes I have taken for both the major and minor have helped me to become a better writer and reader, as well as look more critically at any form of media. I have enjoyed all of the classes I have taken here so far. They made me realize that I might want to change my future professional goals from teaching to media and communications.

I have been actively involved in the SHU community since starting school here and I thoroughly enjoy everything I have joined. I have met some amazing people in the English Club, Campus Ministry and Greek life. These organizations have helped me grow as a person and to be more confident in myself and I am grateful for the experiences they have given me.

"My favorite thing about Sacred Heart University is that I have found it to be a wonderful tight-knit community. The small class sizes allow for a unique relationship between professor and student. My professors are wonderful teachers who are always willing to take the time to help me whenever I need assistance. The student body is warm and welcoming. I have been able to meet so many people and make amazing friendships that I believe will last a lifetime. I know I will find success because of the incredible support system I have been able to build.

I want to become a doctor, and my biochemistry degree will lay the foundation for my academic future. I enjoy my involvement in the American Chemical Society Club (ACS). Chemistry is a fun science that is reactive, lively and so easy to enjoy because the reactions can be so readily observed. By being a part of this club, I can pursue my passion and excitement for chemistry. I love being able to do outreach and share excitement about science with kids. The STEM field is becoming more and more important, and it’s wonderful to be able to spark interest in chemistry early on in the lives of children.

Thank you so much for this wonderful gift. It is overwhelming and reassuring that someone else is not only able to acknowledge my efforts, but also give me financial support. I have a long road ahead with my plans for medical school and your support means the world to me. I have three other siblings; my parents are currently paying four tuitions, so this investment in my education and my future is a blessing."
