Mary Immaculate College, founded in 1898, is a University-level College of Education and the Liberal Arts, academically linked with the University of Limerick. The College is a multi-campus institution, with a student population of over 5,000 students enrolled in undergraduate programmes in Primary and Post-Primary Education, Liberal Arts and Early Childhood Care and Education, as well as a range of postgraduate programmes at Diploma, MA and Ph.D. levels. Every year, Mary Immaculate College (MIC) welcomes students from a range of international locations to study at the College on study abroad and exchange programmes. MIC has formal partnerships with numerous colleges and universities in Europe and around the world to facilitate exchanges.

Located a short walk from the social and cultural buzz of Limerick City centre, MIC Limerick’s leafy 25-acre campus combines architecture from past and present that makes it truly unique. The essential facilities for lectures, study and recreation are all here but its compact size and friendly atmosphere ensures that students have ‘a home away from home’.

It is recommended that international study abroad and exchange students take a minimum of four course modules (24 ECTS) per semester of study at Mary Immaculate College.

Module listings above are subject to change and in the case of the Education and Early Childhood Care & Education modules above, international students may only take them if there is a formal link with their home institution. This is why it is important that you work with your academic adviser at Isabelle Farrington College of Education & Human Development.

Students can also choose the following subject:

Beginners Irish Language (Gaeilge ab initio) Course (6 ECTS Credits)
Gaeilge ab Initio is an Irish language course for beginners, concentrating on the spoken language. The emphasis is on the basic communication skills and grammar of the language, allowing the students to converse in Irish on matters concerning themselves and their interests. Course content includes: background and history of the Irish Language; Irish language today; Irish mythology; introduction to Irish place-names and Gaeltachtaí (Irish-speaking areas).

Please note that this is not a conclusive list but it will help you start your search process. Global Engagement encourages you to apply and take advantage of as many relevant scholarship opportunities as possible.

Speak with Student Financial Assistance to determine how your aid package will apply towards studying abroad.

Please ensure applications for the Welch Tuition Waiver, Thomas More Honors Program Scholarship, and/or Matthew R. Dalling Scholarship are submitted by the specified deadline. Applications and corresponding deadlines can be found in your Study Abroad Account. Failure to submit applications by the specified deadline may cause the scholarship dispersal to be significantly delayed.

If you receive scholarships, grants, or financial aid through SHU, these awards are posted to your Student Account according to the normal disbursement schedule.
