Hellenic American University located in Athens, Greece, is walking distance from the Acropolis, Parliament, ancient Greek and Roman agoras, and the first modern Olympic stadium. Greece, the birthplace of democracy and cradle of western civilization, offers extraordinary opportunities for a rich learning experience, while also being a vibrant modern metropolis which remains, affordable, safe and friendly.

The Global Service-Learning Program at Hellenic American University provides students with the opportunity to explore important social justice issues, including immigration and refugee resettlement in Greece. Faculty from Hellenic American University will offer lectures and discussions about current social initiatives supporting these causes and students will spend time learning and serving alongside local nonprofit organizations. Cultural activities include traditional Greek dance lessons, cooking demonstrations and visits to landmarks throughout the city.

The program fee includes airfare and on-ground transportation, accommodation, day trip to Delphi, guest lectures, guided tours, tickets to all archaeological sites and select meals.

Program Orientation & Preparation Meetings

Program Description

All participants in the program are required to take the 1-credit course  (at no additional tuition cost) in the spring 2026 semester.

Total cost per student is $3,000. This includes airfare, housing, transportation to/from SHU, all transportation in Colombia and the majority of meals. The only meals that are not covered by SHU are those meals in the airport traveling to/from Colombia.

Payment Due Dates

  • First payment of $1,500 (not refundable): November 7, 2025
  • Second payment of $1,500: January 16, 2026

All checks should be made payable to “Sacred Heart University".

There will be no deadline extensions for these payments. All students are responsible for their own program fees. Fundraising is encouraged, both on an individual and group basis. However, each student is responsible for handing in their own individual payments on the dates above. Late payments will jeopardize a student’s participation in the program.
