Find your People, Share your Heart

heart shaking hands iconPioneers Together is all about helping students find their people and feel genuinely connected during their time at Sacred Heart. Whether you're still figuring out where you fit, hoping to meet new friends, or looking to get more involved, this initiative brings the whole campus community together to make connections easier and more natural.

Through welcoming events, student-led programs and simple tips to put yourself out there, Pioneers Together helps you build confidence, discover new communities and create the kind of relationships that make campus feel like home—because nobody should have to navigate college alone. Together, Pioneers support each other every step of the way.

Take That First Step

Find Your People

This is your starting point if you’re hoping to meet friends, get involved or feel more at home on campus. The “Find Your People” Initiative offers easy ways to explore SHU communities, plus practical tips on how to connect with others, from starting conversations to putting yourself out there. You’ll also find links to mental health resources, so you can get support, build confidence and take care of yourself while building your SHU community.

Tips & Strategies

Put Yourself Out There

  • Say yes to one new social opportunity a week (club meeting, lunch with a peer, etc.)
  • Start small conversations: “Where are you from?” or “What’s your major?” are great conversation starters

Be Together, Not Alone

  • Don’t want to go to larger events alone? Come to the Pitt Stop beforehand and walk over with a group
  • Be a regular somewhere: Hawley Lounge, the Valentine Health and Recreation Center, or your favorite study spot — familiar faces become familiar friends!

Use Campus Resources

  • Follow @shufirstyearprograms and @shu.involvement for info on events and ways to get connected on campus
  • Intimidated to leave your residence hall? Start small by attending your RSA’s programming — familiar space, familiar faces and lots of fun
