Formerly known as the LGBTQ+ Task Force, the LGBTQ+ Steering Committee was commissioned during spring of 2022 by President Petillo for LGBTQ+ Pioneers. With members across the institution, the committee serves to develop and support initiatives aimed at increasing support for LGBTQ+ students, faculty and staff.

The steering committee is not strictly comprised of LGBTQ+ individuals, but all members on the committee are here to support all Pioneers and ensure they see inclusive excellence. Previous initiatives of the committee include:

  • Development of Safe Space & Safe Zone training for employees and students respectively
  • Programming for students, faculty, and staff to find community and joy
  • Partnership with internal and external communities
  • Establishment and recruitment of a Manager of LGBTQ+ Affairs
