Crime Reporting
As with all public safety initiatives at Sacred Heart, the top priority is to provide clear, timely and actionable information to protect the campus community. Throughout the academic—and calendar—year, we provide information about campus crime and crime-related issues, as well as develop and implement policies that foster a safer environment for all.
These efforts include:
Annual Crime & Fire Safety Report
SHU Public Safety's annual Campus Crime & Fire Safety Report contains comprehensive information on crime reporting, safety and statistics for the Fairfield, Stamford and Griswold locations, as well as the SHU Dingle campus in Ireland. Copies of the report are distributed each year to all employees and students and are available through the department by request at public-safety@sacredheart.edu.
Public Safety Alerts
When emergency notifications or public safety alerts are necessary, public safety prepares and distributes notices through a variety of channels, including global email, social media platforms, Sacred Heart’s website, printed signage when circumstances warrant and the SHU Info Line (203-365-SNOW), as well as the emergency alert system (text message, email and automated phone call).
All students, faculty and staff are required to register in the system by providing emergency contact information that can be used for public safety announcements, such as updates on inclement weather, emergency incidents and other crisis situations.
Residential Life Updates
Public Safety regularly communicates with Residential Life staff on safety and crime prevention initiatives. The staff then advises resident students.
Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act Statement
The federal Campus Sex Crimes Prevention Act requires institutions of higher education to issue a statement advising the campus community of where information concerning registered sex offenders may be obtained. In Connecticut, this information is accessible from the CT State Police website or the CT Sex Offender Registry website.
