The Marketing & Communications Division is responsible for the administration of all official main Sacred Heart University social media accounts that are intended for sharing information with the campus community and others interested in the University.

The tone and content of electronic communication is informed by our mission and core values, and our highest priority is to prepare our students in mind, body and spirit to personally and professionally make a difference in the global community.

The University does not endorse the views and opinions held by community members that publicly or privately engage with our social media channels including but not limited to comments on, likes, and/or shares of University social media content.

In accordance with social media best practices the Department of Marketing & Communications elects, as the standard mode of operation, to leave community interactions (ex. comments, likes, shares etc.) in their original, unmodified form. This may occasionally include negative or unfavorable content.

While we are strong proponents of an open town square and value discussion and differences of opinion, we strongly believe it is not necessary to be disagreeable while taking an opposing position. We encourage comments that are reasonable and related to the topic under discussion, especially if they are constructive, polite, respectful and recognize the dignity and worth of every human being.

The University reserves the right to remove immediately, and without warning, any post that is contrary to our mission, values or policies. Examples include, but are not limited to:

  • Abusive, bullying, defamatory, demeaning, injurious, insulting, lewd, obscene, profane, racist, pornographic, sexually explicit, threatening or vulgar language
  • Comments that in any way might endanger the health or safety of others, particularly members of the SHU community
  • Comments that encourage or promote hatred or violence
  • Personal attacks that disparage another individual
  • Inaccurate, irrelevant or misleading information that is off topic or self-serving
  • Advertisements, political statements, sales, promotions or spam
  • Material in violation of privacy and copyright laws
  • Multimedia with watermarks

Account administrators will monitor comments and posted material on our social media sites in accordance with these criteria. Should you encounter content that you feel warrants removal you may bring the incident to the attention of our social media team at socialmedia@sacredheart.edu. All final decisions about possible removal and future usage will be made by the University’s vice president of Marketing & Communications.
