The Laudato Si’ Office of Sustainability & Social Justice continues the work initiated by the former Institute for Sustainability & Social Justice (ISSJ), which first conducted a poll on climate anxiety among youth. LSOSSJ now carries this project forward, furthering its reach and impact in alignment with the university’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and social justice.

Poll Project Results
National Poll on United States Youth on Sustainability, Social Justice, Climate Change and the Role of Higher Education | September 2024
In light of increasing national and global perceptions of a world on an unsustainable and unjust path, coupled with calls for higher education institutions to increase their engagement with sustainability and social justice, the newly formed Institute for Sustainability & Social Justice at Sacred Heart University partnered with GreatBlue Research in a poll of United States youth (ages 15-29) to surface their perceptions and opinions on the intertwined topics of sustainability, social justice and climate change—and in particular the role and responsibility of higher education institutions in these areas.
National Poll on Healthcare Sustainability | December 2023
Faculty of the department of health sciences and the School of Social Work designed a healthcare sustainability poll that indicated Americans fear the loss or continued deterioration of affordable access to quality health-care services. The results of the ISSJ-funded poll, show concerns about health insurance, challenges facing low-income and underservice communities and shortages of health-care professionals and new health workers.
ISSJ Research Poll | January 2023
In a digital survey, 1,500 participants from around the United States weighed in on factors driving or limiting sustainability in education. Conducted by the institute in partnership with GreatBlue Research, the poll measured the relative importance, perceived benefits and overall value to society and communities of issues such as environmental education and sustainable education.
