Why’d You Choose SHU?

I chose SHU because of the sense of community and opportunity. From the time I stepped on campus, I noticed how everyone held the door for one another, and how students caught up with faculty and staff and engaged in genuine conversation. Members of the SHU community cared about one another. Additionally, on top of the countless ways to get involved, SHU encourages students to pioneer their own experience.

What do you do now? 

I graduated with my MSEd from Hofstra University and I am now a high school math teacher.

Advice to Underrepresented SHU Students

Shirley Chisolm once said, ‘"If they don’t give you a seat at the table, bring a folding chair.'" Do not wait for an invitation to a seat at the table. It is our responsibility to bring our own chairs, bodies and insistent voices into the room and make space. You deserve to be here.
