Why’d You Choose SHU?

Coming from a big Italian family myself, I wanted a school that gave me similar feelings of home. I think of the Chartwells employees who have sat with me for meals when I was having a hard day, the mentors in the division of Student Affairs who saw me for who I am, and made me feel welcomed and loved- and hundreds of other moments that confirmed SHU was exactly the family I needed away from home.

What Do You Do Now?

Advice to Underrepresented SHU Students

When I walked on campus as a freshman back in 2012, seeking out an affinity group wasn’t an easy task. I waited two whole years before attending my first GSA meeting! TWO! So my advice to ANY students feeling alone is to be brave and show up. I wish I had known that I would be safe, welcomed, and loved when attending that first meeting. There is a place for everyone at SHU, and if seeking out a safe space is difficult for you, know that there are professionals, faculty, staff, and peers on this campus who would gladly walk beside you and help you get there. You are never alone here at SHU!
