Ololade AfolabiDr. Ololade Afolabi, Lecturer in the School of Communication, Media and the Arts at SHU is a scholar-teacher of media studies with specialties in gender and media studies, international communication, and critical cultural studies. She holds a PhD in Mass Communication and Media Arts from Southern Illinois University Carbondale and was a Fulbright Scholar. She is particularly interested in how the identities of African women are being redefined in the age of globalization and how the discourse of urban womanhood imbues into the representation of African women in the media. Dr. Afolabi is a recipient of top paper awards and has received several other awards for her research from both academic and policy think-tank organizations. She brings to the Inclusive Excellence Fellowship her wealth of scholarship experience in researching issues related to marginalization among women of color.  Dr. Afolabi looks forward to collaborating with colleagues in promoting a more diverse community through research, engagement, and pedagogical development.
