Mark CongdonDr. Mark Congdon Jr., Assistant Professor of Communication within SCMA, is deeply committed to fostering open dialogue and strengthening community ties. His early work in special education shaped his vision of education: one that is universally accessible, inclusive, and welcoming to all. His advanced studies at the University of Maine further nurtured his dedication to creating diverse and collaborative educational spaces. Through his teaching, Mark unveils the transformative power of communication as an agent of change. Delving into hands-on research, he is passionate about bridging the gap between universities and communities to usher in a brighter, fairer future. As a board member of the U.S.-El Salvador Sister Cities, an organization dedicated to fostering relationships based on social justice and mutual empowerment, he champions both local and international causes. Mark's innovative approach to education, integrating Universal Design for Learning and service-learning, has been recognized in several publications. As an Inclusive Excellence Fellow, he aspires to tap into his vast experience, scholarly insights, and real-world community engagement to champion inclusivity, accessibility, and belonging at SHU.
