Learning Labs
Learning Labs are peer-led review sessions covering specific courses.
Peer learning lab leaders have a high mastery of the course content and review content delivered during lectures. Students may attend a learning lab if they are enrolled in a course with a learning lab, regardless of the instructor or course section. Learn more about each learning lab below and find learning lab schedules on the PASS Portal.
A&P Learning Lab (APLL)
The A&P Learning Lab is a peer-support system led by students who have demonstrated a high ability to master the content of Anatomy & Physiology. Each 60-minute session reviews difficult or critical material learned in lecture and includes an (ungraded) quiz to allow for student self-assessment. Students can earn a maximum of two bonus points on any given exam by attending at least two different APLL sessions covering that exam’s content.
Physics Learning Lab
The Physics Learning Lab consists of weekly one-hour problem-solving sessions held by an undergraduate who excelled in a previous offering of calculus physics. The undergraduate learning assistant works closely with the instructor in creating exam-type problems based on recent course material and posts the problems to Blackboard a few days before each Learning Lab meeting.
Chemistry Learning Lab
The Chemistry Learning Lab takes place six times a week, with three in-person sessions and three sessions on Zoom, each lasting an hour. During these meetings, students can receive assistance with lecture and lab materials and have their questions answered.
Biology Learning Lab (BLL)
The Biology Learning Lab is a peer academic support program Concepts in Biology I and II to help students stay on track in studying for the four exams that are critical for earning a good grade in the course. The students who lead the BLL sessions have taken the course in prior semesters and earned high grades—they are the ideal resource for students to learn how to study the most difficult concepts required to earn a solid grade. Students should attend one of the approximately 30 BLL sessions held each week for the best results. Online and in-person sessions are available to allow flexibility in taking advantage of this resource.
College Algebra Learning Lab (CALL)
The College Algebra Learning Lab is a support program for students in MA 106 College Algebra offering workshop activities in a small group setting. The Lab Leaders are faculty recommended upper-level math majors with an interest in teaching, including those who are currently working at local schools to fulfill the teaching requirements of their program. Each 60-minute lab session focuses on one major topic area of the syllabus per week and includes a mastery exercise to allow for student self-assessment. Students can earn a maximum of one bonus point per week to apply to an exam in their class, although they are welcome to attend more than one session. The math department offers six lab sessions throughout the week on the weekly topic.
