Students, staff and other supporters dig deep to boost scholarships, programming and more

Sacred Heart University raised more than $825,000 in 24 hours during the annual SHU Giving Day April 12-13. Nearly 1,800 donors contributed to the record-breaking event, which will benefit students and the University.

The SHU community was treated to food trucks, inflatable games, photo-ops and University merchandise as a way to bring the campus together for the important day of philanthropy. “From our enthusiastic students to our dedicated faculty and staff, alumni, parents and friends, everyone came together to make our annual Giving Day a success,” said Jennifer Mahoney, assistant vice president of annual giving and stewardship.

SHU’s Giving Day aims to increase student and alumni engagement while highlighting programs and areas the funds raised will benefit. These include scholarships, performing arts, SHU’s athletic teams, as well as, new and enhanced programs and faculty development.

“This support and generosity will impact all areas of the University, from our academic programs to our state-of-the-art facilities and our affiliated partners—SHU Community Theatre, SHU Discovery Science Center & Planetarium, Horizons enrichment program and WSHU Public Radio,” said Mahoney.

“What a great day to be a Pioneer,” said Paul J. Sutera, senior vice president of University advancement. “On behalf of the students and SHU community—thank you to all who participated in this year’s SHU Giving Day online and in-person. Our contributors put the ‘heart’ in Sacred Heart University. I’m proud to be a member of the SHU community.”
