Student and program-specific data among factors that determine rank

Sacred Heart University’s doctor of nursing practice (DNP) program and master of business administration (MBA) program earned inclusion among the nation’s best graduate school programs, according to U.S. News & World Report’s “2022 Best Graduate Schools” edition. Moreover, the publisher placed SHU’s DNP program as fourth best in Connecticut among nursing schools.

To establish the “2022 Best Nursing Schools,” U.S. News & World Report evaluated 163 DNP programs on statistical survey data gathered from fall of 2020 and early 2021. Ranks were based on 14 factors related to research activity, faculty resources, student excellence and qualitative rankings.

Housed within the Dr. Susan L. Davis, RN, & Richard J. Henley College of Nursing, the DNP program enables nurses with bachelor degrees in their field to earn their doctorate and expand their qualifications, preparing them for a career as a family nurse practitioner. The program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and offers full- and part-time plans of study.

“I am proud of our DNP program here at Sacred Heart,” said Mary Alice Donius, dean of the Davis & Henley College of Nursing. “Our post BSN to DNP program prepares students to gain the knowledge and skills they need to advance their careers as APRNs and become certified as family nurse practitioners.”

Sacred Heart’s part-time MBA is housed within its Jack Welch College of Business & Technology (WCBT), one of fewer than five percent of elite business schools worldwide accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International. Students enrolled in SHU’s MBA program can choose from seven areas of concentration, including a new innovation management concentration, and have access to world-class facilities, such as the IDEA Lab and SHU’s campus in Luxembourg. The part-time MBA program is especially conceived to accommodate mid-career professionals, with evening classes and flexible modes of delivery.

The publisher determined its “Best Part-Time MBA Programs” ranking through an assessment of various factors. These include peer assessments from other universities, undergraduate GPA, number of years of work experience and GMAT or GRE scores. Alumni consistently give high ranks to the WCBT’s MBA for having professors who bring an abundance of real-world experience into the classroom, and for the program’s emphasis on experiential learning and technological literacy.

“It is an honor to see our MBA program recognized by U.S. News & World Report with a 28-place climb in the rankings,” said Martha Crawford, dean of the WCBT. “The focus of the program is on applied learning, whether in our multi-discipline integrated core, or our capstone courses, where students have a major positive social impact on our community. Our MBA students performed over 65,000 hours of pro bono consulting, working through our Center for Nonprofits. Our outstanding students and faculty work hard and have such passion for what they do. It is a joy to see the value of our MBA recognized by the U.S. News & World Report rankings.”
