Sacred Heart to Offer Master’s in Health Administration in 2021
Forty-credit program provides knowledge and skills to advance health-care professionals’ careers
Sacred Heart University’s College of Health Professions has added a master’s degree in health administration (MHA) to its offerings.
Launching in the fall of 2021, the 40-credit, online program is for mid-career professionals working in clinical and nonclinical health care. Students will gain the knowledge and skills required to lead and transform the dynamic field of health administration and elevate their careers.
Stephen Burrows, professor and MHA program director, said the two-and-a-half-year, online program is flexible for working professionals. “It allows students to take classes without being overloaded,” Burrows said.
Additionally, faculty with real-world experience will teach the courses in economics, finance, leadership, quality, ethics and other subjects. The knowledge and training students gain will enable them to take on leadership positions such as manager or director in hospitals, nursing homes, home-health agencies, and other health-care organizations, Burrows said.
Students will benefit from interdisciplinary coursework that focuses on improving health-care delivery. They will learn to be effective leaders, acquire practical exposure to practices essential to managing a team, learn to communicate effectively and with empathy through the use of case studies.
Due to the current health-care climate, Burrows believes there is a demand for the MHA program, as the future of health care is rapidly evolving.
