Animation Career Review examined 136 schools for its list

Sacred Heart University’s game design program has gained recognition as one of the best in Connecticut, according to Animation Career Review.

Students enrolled in the game design and development program acquire important foundational knowledge such as game play theory, computer graphics and animation. They also study related subjects, including 3D object creation, algorithms, operating systems and game programming. Besides these fundamental classes, students learn to use relevant software such as Maya and Adobe Photoshop, as well as communication and team-oriented skills. Every student graduating from the program has the opportunity to receive credit on a published game. Recently, students developed a new expertise in Chromebook games, which have become the leading genre for educational video games.

“I believe this ranking shows the in-depth education the students enrolled in our program receive,” said Robert McCloud, associate professor in the School of Computer Science & Engineering. “Thanks to the abundance of resources that the University provides us, we are able to expose our students to everything they might need to succeed gaming careers.”

Animation Career Review collected its data through surveys. Sacred Heart’s rank derived from a number of variables, including academic reputation, admission selectivity, depth and breadth of the program, value as it relates to tuition and indebtedness, geographic location and employment data.
