This is a one-year, 15-credit program. Courses will be offered in an on campus cohort model consisting of approximately 15 students. Candidates will complete four academic courses over two semesters. Courses will meet on alternating Saturdays exclusively on the Fairfield campus. The cohort meets on a Friday and Saturday to start, followed by three additional meetings occurring every other Saturday. Lunch is provided for the Saturday meetings.
All instructors are experienced superintendents of schools with a track record of sustained excellence. Each cohort will have three adjunct professors who are practicing superintendents in Connecticut.
Students will also complete a one-year internship to serve as an immersion experience with an experienced and successful superintendent of schools. For most of the internship, candidates work in a district other than their own, although the final project for the internship is a Capstone that seeks to solve a critical district-wide instructional issue in the candidate’s home district.
This program was practical and comprehensive. The class discussions and visiting speakers gave as much information about aspects of the superintendency as the internship. If you are looking for a program that will provide practical training for the superintendency then this is it. ~Selena Morgan ‘19
Academic courses cover all aspects of leading a school system:
Learning from active superintendents was extremely beneficial. They could offer real, in-the-moment lessons and insight into the day-to-day workings of a superintendent, in addition to theoretical curriculum. Having a small cohort of 12 individuals created an amazing community of learners and professionals, who bonded to become a support system both for school-related tasks and as professional resources.
