All psychology majors must complete one capstone class. There are three options from which to choose:

PS 380 Advanced Psychological Research

This class focuses on advancing scientific writing skills, research techniques, peer collaboration, and presentation skills associated with the field of psychology. Students will participate in research projects or proposals related to a faculty member's specific research area.

PS 396 Psychology Internship

The objective of the internship is to gain experience in a placement that is associated with your career goals and develop professionally. You work with the SHU Center for Career & Professional Development to find a suitable placement over the summer.  The internship is 60 hours during the semester and the class meets once a week. Prof. Gannon will send an email later in the semester to all students registered for the class with the next steps and requirements.

PS 397 Research Assistantship

Students conduct research under the supervision of a faculty member. You may complete a review and discussion of relevant literature in a seminar format and/or data collection in a laboratory setting. You can take this class more than once should you be interested in continuing the research you are working on with the faculty member.

Your academic advisor can help you choose the best option based on your goals. You can take more than one capstone if you like to gain more experience. Any extra capstones you take will count as electives in either the psychology elective requirement or as general electives.
