In order to obtain their license to practice medicine, Certified PAs must graduate from an accredited PA program and pass the Physician Assistant National Certifying Examination (PANCE). PA’s earn national certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA). NCCPA is the only certifying organization for physician assistants in the United States. For information on the National Certification of PA’s, visit the NCCPA website.

State licensure laws authorize PAs to practice medicine either pursuant to a supervision agreement with a physician or in collaboration with a physician. PA’s who practice in Connecticut are required to obtain licensure from the CT State Department of Health. For information on CT PA licensure, visit the CT DPH PA Licensure. Students graduating from the SHU MSPAS program will be eligible for both National Certification and State Licensure.

Students are encouraged to review the disclosure information on the State Authorization & Disclosures page for more information on Physician Assistant licensure by state.
