I chose the DPT program at SHU because it’s one of the top-ranked programs in Connecticut. The faculty is exceptional and encourages students to become involved in research opportunities, community service projects and the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), as well as association events, including a national conference where students can participate in presentations, poster sessions and networking events with professionals from across the country. SHU places a strong emphasis on research by providing opportunities to complete capstone projects and conduct your own research. The faculty is invested in the students’ futures and works constantly for student success inside and outside of the classroom.
The Commissioner on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education requires all Doctor of Physical Therapy programs to provide the public with current, accurate, reliable and easily available information about the cost of attendance. The 2023-2024 SHU DPT Student Financial Fact Sheet is provided for review. Student debt data was gathered by direct survey of the DPT students.
The DPT is a clinical doctoral degree and is the entry-level degree for professional practice. The program is three years in length, including eight to 10 weeks of full-time clinical work in each of the summers between the first and second years.
The 3+3 Accelerated or 4+3 Undergraduate Pathway to DPT options allow incoming freshmen the opportunity to complete an undergraduate degree and a doctorate graduate degree in physical therapy in either six or seven years.
To be eligible for the Lauren Foster Petisce Memorial Endowed Scholarship for Physical Therapy, candidates must meet the following criteria:
Choosing SHU’s Doctor of Physical Therapy program was one of the best decisions I have ever made. The program’s dedicated, professional and passionate faculty motivates and inspires. I feel more than prepared to take on a career in physical therapy. The program gave me the opportunity to provide skilled physical therapy services at an outpatient orthopedic clinic, which included performing evaluations and examinations, providing hands-on treatment, developing exercise programs, creating individualized plans of care and building relationships with patients. By bringing forward all the skills I learn in the classroom into the clinic, I see the powerful role physical therapists have in improving movement and functional mobility.
