The Leadership Graduate Certificate is ideal for professionals who wish to pursue advanced training in management and leadership and are weighing the benefits of beginning an MBA program.

Courses address management skills which will enhance the leadership potential of professional managers. This program is specifically designed to develop the individual professionals international and multicultural management potential. Students who successfully complete this program and are admitted into Sacred Heart University's MBA program will be able to use this program's coursework in fulfillment of their MBA program requirements

Admission Criteria

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited four-year college or university
  • Completed Graduate Application for Admission, including a resume and official undergraduate and graduate transcripts
  • Two letters of recommendation from employers or faculty
  • Personal statement of interest in and qualifications for the graduate program
  • Admission requires approval by the Jack Welch College of Business

Program Structure

  • Courses are academically accredited at the graduate level
  • Students participate in thirty-six hours of classroom instruction per course
  • Courses are offered in a hybrid format for maximum flexibility
  • Some completed courses may be applied toward the MBA Degree (Additional application requirements are necessary)
  • Certificate students attend courses with MBA students from a variety of backgrounds and companies, ensuring exposure to a broad range of learning experiences

Prerequisite Course

Using a framework of managerial roles and competencies, this course explores what management involves, how it affects people within an organization, why it is critical to the effective functioning of an organization, and how the accomplishment of management functions may vary in different cultural contexts. The course surveys competencies and knowledge necessary for successfully facing current challenges in the rapidly changing global business environment.

Required Course

Leaders and managers at all levels in organizations must influence others to enable achievement of the organization's objectives. Leading and influencing with integrity requires understanding of one's self, other people, the situational and cultural context, as well as both current and future impacts of actions taken. Through course learning experiences students develop individual and organizational strategies to influence others, shape culture, manage change, negotiate, and facilitate employee engagement and performance so that their organizations can contribute to society in ways that are effective, responsible, and sustainable.
