What unique aspect of your program are you glad you experienced at SHU?

The healthcare informatics program at SHU offered an opportunity to engage in hands-on projects that bridged the gap between technical knowledge and real-world health care applications. Case-based learning and partnerships with health care businesses allowed me to engage directly on projects that improved data governance procedures and streamlined electronic health record (EHR) workflows. This experience provided me with a solid basis for handling challenging issues in health care informatics and enabled me to observe directly how data and technology lead to improvements in patient care.

How did your education at SHU prepare you for your career?

By giving me a strong foundation of technical skills, health care knowledge, and strategic vision, my education at SHU prepared me for my job. Important topics, including health care policy, EHR systems, evidence-based practices, foundational health care informatics skills and advanced health data analytics, were highlighted in the curriculum because they are all necessary for managing today’s complicated health care environment. Along with an emphasis on problem-solving through case studies and real-world applications, the curriculum equipped me to handle many issues, such as data compliance and optimization of operations. I gained a broad skill set and the self-assurance to lead significant health care projects thanks to SHU's healthcare informatics program, which eventually accelerated my career path.

Give an idea of the arc of your time at SHU from the day you arrived to the day you graduated.

I was immediately enmeshed in a vibrant setting at SHU where technology and health care had significant intersections. Stephen C. Burrows, Jessie Joseph, Cristina Mills, and Tobi Ojo, were among the faculty who greatly influenced how I understood health care informatics. Because of their diverse backgrounds and real-world perspectives, I could directly observe how data and technology propel significant change in health care.

Under the direction of these outstanding faculty members and adjunct lecturers, I was inspired to investigate challenging subjects, including data analytics, compliance and EHR optimization. My technical knowledge and critical problem-solving abilities were enhanced by the practical projects and case studies they incorporated into the program.

Why would you recommend SHU to a prospective student?

The SHU healthcare informatics program offers a special fusion of academic rigor and real-world application that genuinely prepares you for a job in health care technology. I would heartily recommend it to potential students. Faculty experts contribute a wealth of practical knowledge and offer insights that help close the gap between theory and practice. With practical projects based on real-life industry situations, the curriculum addresses the most recent issues in health care, such as data analytics, compliance and EHR optimization.
