The Game Design & Development program partners with stakeholders within and beyond the SHU community to create products in the areas of health and education. Student creators in Sacred Heart University’s game design program learn through real-world and hands-on experiences, which includes creating video games. The list below represents some of the works created as part of the program.

Real-World Commercial Project Examples

Notey’s World

Notey’s World is a guitar learning game geared for young learners but is available for all age and experience levels. Players use their own guitar to learn about music and how to create it by engaging in fun virtual puzzles and games.

MissionKT

Mission KT features a crew of adventurers who travel back in time in their “Cosmic Egg” to visit dinosaurs and learn about the science of atoms. Their exploratory journey reveals what they inherited from creatures such as the T-Rex and other living things.

Stardust Mystery: Raptor Adventure

Players journey to the Late Cretaceous Era to learn about dinosaurs and chemical composition. Through gadgets and other tools, they scan the minerals and wildlife they encounter—even some creatures that aren’t particularly friendly.

Senior Student Project Examples

2023 Senior Project: Shield

A 2D sprite-based action game in which the player assumes the role of a framed ex-cop who is escaping during a prison riot. Armed only with a cafeteria tray for defense, the player navigates danger while uncovering the truth behind the wrongful imprisonment. Developed by Phil Donald (producer and level designer), Alyssa Grosso (lead programmer), Brian Rockwell (writer and user interface designer), Shakane Cooper (art director), Ben McClintock (sound design and programmer), Mike Swanson (animator) and Riley Raihan del Sol (art).

2024 Senior Project: Interaquatic Assault

Winner of the SHU Academic Festival 2024 award for best visuals, this action game is set in an underwater universe that combines elements of tower defense and fishing mechanics. Players take on the role of a skilled diver tasked with defending alien planets from menacing robotic sharks known as Megabites.
