Why Earn Your Master’s in Finance & Investment Management at Sacred Heart?
At SHU, you’ll study with distinguished faculty in the AACSB-accredited Welch College of Business & Technology to understand and practice advanced financial analysis. The program includes coursework in the latest investment theory, mathematics, statistics, data-intensive analysis and CFA exam preparation and can be completed in as little as 1.5 years.
Working professionals enrolled in the MS in Finance & Investment Management program have the option to take two online, asynchronous courses per trimester. The online courses deliver the same rigorous curriculum and expert instruction with a more flexible schedule.

In the Master’s in Finance & Investment Management program, you will also:
- Study and learn about the latest finance trends in financial analysis and equity valuation, investments, fixed income securities, portfolio management, risk management and compliance and Python programming language.
- Choose to complete the 33-credit curriculum full-time or part-time
- Learn to develop client solutions to investment and risk management issues through case studies, internships, problem-based learning experiences and extensive interaction with practitioners.
- Gain hands-on experience in SHU's state-of-the-art Finance Lab with the software, hardware and applications used by financial managers.
- Have the opportunity to complete a free, two-week intensive finance and math boot camp as an incoming master’s student.

Jeffrey Palma, DBA ’23, MBA, BA
Adjunct Professor of Finance
Palma brings nearly 30 years of experience in investment strategy, macroeconomic research and asset allocation to the classroom. He leads multi-asset solutions at Cohen & Steers and previously held senior roles at UBS, GE Asset Management and State Street. Palma holds a DBA in finance from Sacred Heart, an MBA from Columbia and a BA from Rutgers.

Computational Finance Lab
The WCBT’s 1,500-square-foot Computational Finance Lab is a state-of-the-art teaching and research facility that bridges the gap between financial theory and analytics. As one of the centerpieces of the Welch College of Business & Technology, the Finance Lab provides first-hand exposure to financial concepts such as trading, portfolio construction, financial intelligence and risk management.

- 13 Bloomberg terminals and access to real-time financial information
- Data-feeds include Wharton Research Data Service (WRDS) and The Center for Research in Security Prices (CRSP)
STEM Designated Program
This is a STEM-designated program, which means you will be trained in areas of technology and math that are in high demand with U.S. employers. This program allows international students with F1 visas to extend their OPT in the U.S. by 24 months after graduating (36 months in total).

The MSFIM program is designed to give you an in-depth understanding of finance and investments in the real world! The Welch College of Business & Technology has some of the finest professors who really challenge you. They set you up for success. The program helped me reinvent myself and acquire the knowledge needed for my current and future roles.
When I was studying for my Series 7 and CAIA exams, a lot of the content felt more like a refresher rather than learning new material, as most of the subjects were covered in the MSFIM program course curriculum.
