Criteria to Progress
Students admitted to the dual degree program must continue, as undergraduate students, to meet program-specific criteria in order to progress to enrollment in the MSW program, as outlined below.
- Successful completion of the bachelor’s degree with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Students in the Accelerated 3+2 MSW program must complete the BS in Health Science degree within three years (May of the junior year) with an overall Health Science GPA of 3.0 or higher
- Students in the Accelerated 4+1 MSW program option must complete a BSW degree and earn an overall Social Work GPA of 3.0 or higher with no less than a B in each Social Work course
- Students, in any pathway, must earn a B or higher in any Social Work course taken during their undergraduate degree (if they intend for the course to apply toward their graduate degree).
- Demonstration of academic ability, interpersonal skills and potential to be successful in the MSW program as evidenced by two letters of attestation from SHU faculty members who has had the student in class
- Submission of a resume
- Submission of an admissions essay responding to specific questions
- Students in the undergraduate Social Work major (Accelerated 4+1 students) must submit field evaluation form(s) from all field placements. Field evaluation forms are completed by the student’s BSW field placement supervisor(s) after completing each field placement in the BSW program.
- Evidence of the student’s successful progression in the development of the professional and interprofessional skills necessary for successful participation in the MSW program during a meeting with a MSW faculty member
