Explore Two Career-Focused Concentrations

Forensic Accounting

Forensic accounting combines accounting with investigation. The forensic accounting concentration teaches you how to spot, investigate and prevent financial fraud and wrongdoing. By studying real-life cases in fraud detection, compliance and legal support, you'll learn how professionals examine financial transactions, identify problems and encourage ethical financial practices in private and public organizations.

Tax Compliance & Planning

Become the expert that clients rely on. The tax compliance and planning concentration gives you a solid understanding of state and federal tax laws for individuals and businesses. Through hands-on coursework and real-life examples, you’ll gain the skills to understand complex tax rules, make sure everything is compliant and help clients with tax planning and risk management.

The MSA program at Sacred Heart truly enables students to excel both academically and professionally. During my time in the program I was able to work part time at PwC while also studying for my CPA exam, as many topics in the coursework overlapped with my CPA exam progression. The faculty are always willing to help in all aspects and have been a good resource for myself throughout my years at SHU and beyond. I truly value the MSA program, and am beyond grateful for the opportunities it has created for me.

Can I complete a master's in accounting while working full time?

Master’s in accounting (MSA) students at Sacred Heart University benefit from a unique hybrid format that supports your continued full-time employment. Online courses are blended with monthly Saturday seminars on our Fairfield campus from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. The MSA program is a cohort model ideally designed and recommended for completion in one year. Part-time MSA studies are possible with six-credit terms over two years.

Dual Degree Program Options for Accounting Majors

Sacred Heart University’s dual degree programs provide a defined pathway for incoming freshmen to move seamlessly from an undergraduate to a graduate degree.

The Bachelor’s-Master of Science in Accounting (MSA) 4+1 Dual Degree Program allows incoming freshmen the opportunity to complete an undergraduate degree and a graduate degree in five years.

While some of our dual degree programs require specific undergraduate majors, others are open to almost all undergraduate disciplines. Apply to a dual degree program as an incoming freshman and you’ll have the opportunity to be admitted directly into the graduate program of your choice at the same time as your admission as an undergraduate student. Students are encouraged to reach out to your admissions counselor to discuss dual degree options.

Coursework

Coursework features a rigorous core curriculum in foundational concepts, along with two concentrations, that aligns directly with the new CPA model.

Our MSA faculty members are established scholars in the accounting industry. The MSA program will feature notable guest speakers who will talk about current and developing accounting topics.

CPA Exam Preparation

The MSA program will provide graduates with the necessary skills and knowledge that are tested on the CPA exam. At 30 credit hours, the master's degree, together with a bachelor's degree, provides students with the 150 hours necessary as part of CPA licensure.

Students may be eligible to receive Becker CPA review at no cost.
