Why Earn Your MS in Human Clinical Nutrition at Sacred Heart?
Sacred Heart’s master’s degree in human clinical nutrition (MSNU) prepares students for careers in federal or state agencies, private industry, research, public health or academic settings. This unique clinical education offers dynamic coursework in conjunction with clinical placements and service learning opportunities, focusing on a holistic approach to nutrition in preventing and treating disease.
Consisting of 34 credits over six trimesters, this part-time, online program of study can be completed in two calendar years. Upon degree completion, graduates will be qualified to work as practicing nutritionists and will also be eligible to sit for the Certified Nutrition Specialist (CNS) board examination. The MSNU can be earned as an additional certification for other licensed health-care professionals.
Learning Outcomes
Graduates will:
- Learn to customize nutrition recommendations for clients based on their current health status and best available research based on principles of precision medicine
- Demonstrate clinical reasoning and clinical decision-making skills
- Be able to design, synthesize and present research
- Know how to respond to the profession’s expanding scope of practice
- Effectively communicate and collaborate as part of an interprofessional team
- Have skills in emerging areas such as telehealth, behavioral counseling, diet prescription, informatics and genomics
- Understand practicing nutrition in a legal and ethical manner
