Program Application Steps

All new F-1 student visa applicants: Applications and all required documents must be submitted 6 weeks prior to orientation. This is to allow you enough time to apply and obtain your student visa.

US Citizens, Permanent Residents, F-1 Transfer students and visitors on other visa categories: Applications may be accepted up to one week prior to orientation, depending on your status and travel dates.

Apply to the ESL Program

  • Complete the online application
  • Create a username and password
  • Complete application
  • Upload required documents
  • You will receive a confirmation email with a link to pay the Application and Testing fee.

Full-Time (F-1 Visa) students are required to submit the following:

  • Copy of passport
  • Copy of U.S. visa, if any
  • Bank statement or Financial Guarantee with minimum balance of $5,300
    • If you have a sponsor, complete the Affidavit of Support
    • If you are sponsored by your government, upload your Financial Guarantee
  • Immunization and Health Record Form

Receive Your Acceptance

  • Once you receive your acceptance, a link will be sent to your email to prepay and schedule your I-20 shipment.
  • All I-20 shipments are processed through Air Concepts (shipped via FedEx or DHL) and pre-paid by applicant.
  • Estimated shipping cost is usually $80 to most international locations.

Need an I-20? Email oiis@sacredheart.edu. I-20s get sent to your application portal within 15 business days after you receive your acceptance letter.

Receive Your I-20

Once you receive your I-20, you must consult the instructions available on the embassy or consulate website where you intend to apply and schedule your student visa.

Visa Approval

Once your visa is approved and you book your flight, email esl@sacredheart.edu your flight information.

Travel to the US & Attend New Student Orientation

Language level placement testing will be done two weeks prior to the start date virtually with an ESL instructor. Payment links will be sent out during the second week of the term. Bring all supporting documents with you to orientation (acceptance letter with Student ID number).
