Funding opportunity for all FNP and PMHNP Students (MSN-FNP, MSN-PMHNP, Post-MSN FNP Certificate, Post-MSN PMHNP Certificate and BSN to DNP-FNP programs)

This grant can provide partial tuition and program fees for full- or part-time study. You may receive the traineeship for one or two semesters in the 2025-26 academic year.

Sacred Heart University has received a new Advanced Nursing Education Workforce (ANEW) traineeship grant, entitled Advanced Practice Nursing in Urban and Rural Setting Education (APNURSE) from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services–Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) for the next four academic years. The purpose of this traineeship is to support students’ need for financial aid with a focus on preparing primary care and psychiatric mental health nurse practitioners to work in medically underserved areas after graduation.

Eligibility Requirements

  • RN license
  • Eligible to work in the United States
    • Be a citizen of the United States, a foreign national having in your possession a visa permitting permanent residence in the United States, or a non-citizen national
  • Be enrolled full- or part-time in an advanced practice nursing education program to become certified as a primary care nurse practitioner (any DHCON Family Nurse Practitioner program) or psychiatric nurse practitioner (any DHCON Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner program), at either the DNP, MSN or post-MSN certificate level
  • Maintain predetermined academic standards of the Dr. Susan L. Davis, R.N., and Richard J. Henley College of Nursing, Sacred Heart University
  • Interest and willingness to participate in training modules pertaining to pain management, cultural diversity and social determinants of health
  • Desire to focus on medically underserved populations after graduation
  • If BSN-DNP full-time student, should be willing to commit to a 3-year full-time plan of study (approximately 12 credits per semester)

Part-time students (part-time DNP, MSN and post-MSN certificate students) are eligible to receive funding in their final year of study. This corresponds to the time when you take your clinical practicum courses.

Decisions will be based on (1) financial need, (2) interest in working in a medically underserved area after graduation and (3) undergraduate/graduate academic performance.
