Student Nurses' Association | SNA

The Student Nurses' Association (SNA) is a national organization designed specifically for nursing students. There is a chapter of SNA to represent nursing students at Sacred Heart University.

The SNA board acts as a liaison between students and faculty. The board also organizes events both on and off campus. These events help to build community and promote the development of skills, standards and ethics that are needed to become a responsible member of the nursing professions.

Community service is an important part of the SNA and is strongly encouraged. SNA members participate in a number of on and off campus service opportunities including, but not limited to: health fairs, food and clothing drives, and blood drives.

SNA also offers mentoring for younger members allowing new students to develop positive study habits and have a resource on campus if they need it. Members of SNA have the opportunity to attend both local, state, and national conferences. Being part of the SNA is a great way to become connected to the nursing community both locally and nationally.

“I joined the SNA because I wouldn’t want to go on this wild journey to becoming a nurse with any other group of people. Everyone in the SNA has a passion to help those who need a little extra care and love. You won’t find another group of students more motivated and passionate about the work we do.” ~Sara Chow, Class of 2020

Men Entering Nursing

Sacred Heart University’s Men Entering Nursing (SHU MEN) is a chapter of the American Association of Men in Nursing (AAMN). It is safe space for all students to support and encourage men of all ages to become nurses and to exemplify the growing contributions of men in the nursing field. The chapter promotes the retention of men in our nursing program through collaboration and peer support. It provides a place for men entering nursing to meet, discuss challenges, overcome barriers, and instill pride in the profession of nursing by recognizing the unique contributions they provide in healthcare both locally and nationally.

"I joined MEN because I wanted to be surrounded by people who understand what I go through as a male in a predominantly female career path. With both men and women a part of our club, I feel safe knowing that I have a diverse group of people around me that have my back in this strenuous journey of becoming a nurse. At graduation, these are the people that I will say helped me through it all when looking back at my time here at SHU."  ~ Cameron Ottaviani, Class of 2026

"I’ve been involved in MEN since the beginning and it is really a safe space to talk about struggles and/or accomplishments throughout your time in the nursing program. Regardless of your gender, MEN is welcoming and has given me a look into what my male peers go through in their time in school. MEN has made me more self-aware and has taught me ways to support my male friends in the nursing world." ~ Tori Miller, Class of 2025
