The College of Education is accredited by The Council for Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) through 2025, with no identified Areas for Improvement, for its programs leading to initial teacher certification. Programs include: Master of Arts in Teaching for Elementary and Master of Arts in Teaching Secondary. The content areas are: elementary (grades PK-6) and secondary (grades 4-12) in English, history/social studies, math, science (biology, general science, chemistry) and Spanish. Advanced programs leading to advanced levels of certification, which are still operating under an extension of accreditation from the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), will be up for review for CAEP in 2025. These programs include: Educational Leadership Certificate, Superintendent of Schools Certification and Sixth-Year Degree in Literacy.

Measure 1: Completer Effectiveness & Impact On Student Learning

In CT, EPPs (or anyone else) are not allowed access to teacher effectiveness and student level test data. As such, the Farrington College of Education & Human Development (FCEHD) at SHU is collaborating with K-12 school partners to obtain teacher effectiveness and student impact data from FCEHD completers employed in partner schools.

Title II

Under Section 205-208 of Title II of the Higher Education Act, the Farrington College of Education & Human Development compiles an annual report on the programs that prepare teachers. Using the Institution and Program Report Card the college reports out on admissions requirements, number of candidates enrolled in the programs and program completers. The college also provides goals on training candidates in shortage areas, how well candidates perform on licensure test and areas where technology are being incorporated.
