College of Business & Technology Licensure & Certification Disclosure Information
Accounting Program Disclosures
State Boards of Accountancy have specific requirements associated with examination and licensure related to the practice of accounting. Students are strongly encouraged to check with their State Accounting Board in which they intend to sit for the Certified Public Accounting (CPA) exam or obtain licensure as requirements may be subject to change.
Sacred Heart University’s Bachelor of Science, Master of Science, and Certificate degrees in Accounting are designed to meet the standards required by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB). The Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Certificate in Accounting are not designed to fulfill all education requirements for licensure as a Certified Public Accountant. The BS in Accounting will prepare students to be eligible to take the CPA examination in the state of Connecticut. The Certificate in Accounting will give students additional graduate level coursework they may need to meet the CPA credit hour requirement for examination and licensure.
The Master of Science in Accounting is designed to prepare students to meet the educational requirements necessary for licensure as a Certified Public Accountant (see state dropdowns below). If students plan to seek initial licensure outside of Connecticut, students will want to determine if the coursework completed at the undergraduate level plus the coursework required in the MS Accounting will collectively meet the state’s requirement for licensure.
