Dean's Office Graduate Assistant

The College of Health Professions (CHP) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Graduate Assistant (GA) to support the Dean’s office with academic, research, communication, and programmatic initiatives. This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of health education, administration, global engagement, and student success. The GA will be expected to handle a wide range of tasks, including research support, communications, event coordination, and project assistance aligned with the college’s mission.

  • Part-time (12 hours/week)
  • Compensation: $2,592 stipend

Dates

April 1, 2026 - June 30, 2026

Primary Responsibilities

Research & Academic Support
  • Conduct literature searches using academic databases (e.g., PubMed, Scopus, Google Scholar)
  • Organize and maintain digital libraries of academic articles
  • Summarize major findings from scholarly articles for presentations, reports, and grant proposals
  • Compile citations and format bibliographies in required citation styles
Communications & Social Media
  • Develop engaging and mission-aligned content for the College’s social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, etc.)
  • Manage social media accounts, track engagement analytics, and recommend strategies for improvement
  • Assist with drafting newsletters (Good News Friday), announcements, and website content
  • Support branding and messaging efforts to elevate the visibility of CHP programs and achievements
Events & Program Support
  • Assist in planning, promoting, and executing Dean’s Office events (e.g., faculty meetings, student recognition events, public lectures)
  • Support the logistics of executing event such as creating invitations and event materials
  • Provide on-site support and post-event follow-up (e.g., thank-you notes, evaluations)
CHP Global Programs
  • Assist in the promotion and logistical planning of global health programs
  • Support marketing efforts, including brochures, presentations, and student outreach
  • Help maintain accurate records and reports related to global engagement
CHP Student Success Initiatives
  • Support initiatives aimed at improving retention, academic achievement, and student well-being
  • Assist with data collection, outreach efforts, and communication with students
  • Contribute to workshops, mentoring programs, or academic support events
  • Participate in Admissions-related events as needed 
Administrative & Special Projects
  • Attend regular meetings with the Dean’s office and project leads
  • Assist with the creation and editing of presentations, reports, and infographics
  • Maintain organized files and assist with routine office operations
  • Support additional projects as assigned by the Dean or designated supervisors

Qualifications

  • Must be a current graduate student
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Sharepoint); willingness to learn additional software as required
  • Familiarity with academic research processes and social media platforms
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience with event planning and/or student support is a plus

Preferred Skills

  • Graphic design, content creation skills (e.g., Canva, Adobe Creative Suite), social media experience
  • Interest in health professions education, student affairs, or global health

CHP Graduate Peer Advisor

Assisting the Graduate Student Academic Advisor, the Peer Advisor will work to strengthen student academic success initiatives offered at the College of Health Professions. The successful applicant will identify and promote campus resources of interest to graduate students, work individually and in groups with students and help with the development of workshops/presentations for students. This position will require collaboration with several CHP departments and campuswide offices to serve the needs of CHP graduate students. This position provides the opportunity to gain valuable experience working in academic advising and program development, while supporting fellow graduate students. The qualified candidate will represent the College of Health Professions as an exemplary student, with an ethical commitment to honesty, integrity and professionalism while maintaining student confidentiality and privacy in all matters.

Once the candidate is selected, the appointed Peer Advisor will engage in training regarding the profession of Academic Advising. The Peer Advisor will also be versed in SHU policies and procedures.

  • Part-time (10 hours/week)

  • Compensation: $4,000 stipend

August 15, 2025 - May 15, 2026

Primary Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement programs and resources that enhance the graduate students’ academic experience – time management, organization, resiliency, wellness
  • Collaborate with CHP graduate program directors and faculty, the Center for Career & Professional Development, the Center for Teaching & Learning, International & Immigration Services, etc. to build and promote programming for the CHP graduate community
  • Hold weekly “office” hours, respond to student requests (by email, phone, or in person) for information or assistance regarding academic skill building, course registration, general resource utilization, make referrals as needed
  • Create and be responsible for graduate student academic success social media platforms to communicate, encourage and build community
  • Recruit and facilitate volunteer “Peer Educators” to specialize and support programming efforts regarding academic skill building, wellness and professional development

  • Enthusiastic and passionate to best serve and support fellow graduate students
  • Can prove demonstrated ability and desire to serve others in mentorship and success coaching
  • Can represent graduate student interests and concerns
  • At least a 2nd semester current CHP graduate student
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5

Graduate Assistant for Student Experience

To support the Director of the Student Experience in the College of Health Professions by assisting with both curricular and co-curricular programming that supports student learning, engagement, and development, while reinforcing the University’s mission.

  • Part-time (5-10 hours/week)
  • Compensation: $2,500 stipend

Two-year position ending June 30, 2020

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist with the creation and implementation of the CHP’s pre-fall program, “A Week of Wellness”
  • Attend all events associated with the CHP pre-fall program
  • Co-program certain events connected with the SHU WELL Living Learning Community
  • Participate in the recruitment and training of the CHP Peer Advisor program & DPT Mentor Program
  • Oversee, utilize, and maintain certain CHP social media platforms, used in conjunction with academic advising and general information dissemination
  • Coordinate some co-curricular programs for CHP students
  • Identify at-risk CHP students and refer to appropriate SHU staff/faculty
  • Coordinate events (in conjunction with directors) associated with the Peer Advisor and DPT Mentor Programs
  • Assist with evaluation of programs as needed (survey generation, analysis)
