Community Connections is designed for students who want to start college with purpose. If you’re excited about meeting new people, getting involved in your community and making a real difference, this program is for you.
Program Highlights
- Building lasting friendships with other incoming students through fun, interactive activities centered on service and social justice
- Connecting with mentors by working alongside upperclass students who can share advice, answer questions and help you feel at home on campus
- Partnering with local nonprofit organizations on meaningful service projects
- Collaborating with faculty, staff, students and community leaders to better understand real-world challenges beyond the classroom
- Starting your college journey strong by earning community service hours, exploring urban challenges and opportunities and creating positive change together

Participating in a pre-fall program has undoubtedly been the most fulfilling experience of my entire collegiate career. Not only was it incredibly fun and allowed me to do impactful work in my new community, but it also introduced me to my very best friends. The upperclassmen who facilitated the program helped me acclimate to SHU and encouraged me to join clubs and organizations that I otherwise would have been too shy to join. And now I am lucky enough to be the president of one of those clubs and inspire freshmen from each new class to join alongside me, all thanks to the Community Connections pre-fall program!
