Don't see an organization that meets your interest? Consider applying to start a new undergraduate club/organization.

Applications are available in fall semesters on SHU Engage.

Once the new club/organization application is submitted, it will be reviewed by Student Involvement. Representatives may be asked to meet with the committee to present your proposal, demonstrate familiarity with University policies and answer any follow-up questions. Applicants will receive the committee’s final decision via email.

During the review, the committee evaluates:

  • Mission & Purpose: The potential club/organization has a clear mission that adds value to the student experience and does not have a similar purpose to an existing club
  • Student Interest: At least 10 committed full-time undergraduate student members show strong interest and engagement
  • Sustainability: Has potential to last beyond its founding members, with realistic goals and ongoing relevance
  • University Alignment: The purpose supports Sacred Heart University’s mission, values and community standards
  • Adviser Support: Secures a full-time faculty/staff adviser, employed by Sacred Heart University, who can provide appropriate guidance

Please note, all recognized student clubs and organizations must be student initiated, student led and student operated. While faculty and staff may serve as advisers, mentors or supporters, but they may not establish, direct or operate student clubs/organizations. Any group that is primarily managed or controlled by faculty or staff members will not be recognized as a club/organization. This ensures that the club/organization system remains focused on student leadership, growth and accountability.

Once a new club is approved, it enters the onboarding process, designed to ensure a strong, complaint and sustainable launch. The club will be officially recognized and may begin meeting after the onboarding trainings are complete and a final version of the constitution is created and approved by Student Involvement.
