Performing Arts

The performing arts are powerful ways of understanding the world, telling stories and discovering who you are through creative practice. The Working Artist Living & Learning Community is designed for students who see the arts not only as a passion, but also as a serious pursuit rooted in discipline, identity, collaboration and self-expression. Whether participating in Band & Orchestra, Choir, Dance or Theatre, students are invited to deepen their artistic practice while exploring what it means to live, learn and grow as an artist. Through reflection and hands-on experiences, this community emphasizes that being an artist requires more than talent—it requires intention, resilience, communication and confidence in navigating creative spaces.

The Working Artist: Performing Arts as Practice, Process & Participation LLC Experience

Students engage thoughtfully with their craft, their role within an ensemble and the broader cultural and professional contexts that shape artistic work.

Through this program, you’ll explore:

  • Artistic identity and creative voice
  • Discipline, rehearsal and artistic responsibility
  • Collaboration and ensemble culture
  • Creative risk-taking and expression
  • Navigation and self-advocacy as an artist

What you’ll experience:

  • Reflective discussions and interactive workshops
  • Guided projects connecting artistic practice to personal growth
  • Live performance experiences and dialogue about creative process
  • Development of a personal artist portfolio aligned with professional goals or lifelong artistic engagement
  • Guest artists sharing perspectives from professional, community-based and lifelong artistic pathways

A central component of the experience includes creating a personal artist portfolio that helps students articulate what the arts mean to them, how they want to grow creatively and how they plan to remain connected to artistic practice during and beyond college.

You do not need to pursue an arts career to join this community. This program is for students who want to engage with the arts more intentionally, confidently and authentically.
