Program Description

The medical immersion experience provides a rich, rewarding, and diverse clinical opportunity for students in the College of Nursing. A team of 12 undergraduate and 2 graduate nursing students, 3 nursing faculty and onsite healthcare providers collaborate to provide care in rural southwest Virginia. This is a large medical mission drawing thousands of patients and is housed in tents, set up and designed to care for the whole person. The nursing-led team travels to southwest Virginia in the summer semester for a total of 5 days, creating an opportunity for nursing students to complete clinical credit hours in an immersive rural setting.

Nursing Students

  • Undergraduate students who apply to the Central Appalachia clinical immersion must be rising senior students
  • DNP/FNP hybrid students who apply to Central Appalachia clinical immersion should have completed the first primary care course

Hotel (double occupancy) in Wise, VA area.

All meals are provided and included as part of the program fee. You are responsible for your own snacks if desired.
