Housing
Shared Apartments
Students may live in a shared double room in an apartment with a kitchenette and laundry facility.
Homestay
Students may live in a single room in a homestay. Homestays includes a shared living room, kitchen and bathroom with host family. Final housing assignments are solely at the discretion of CIEE.
Meals
Apartments
Students can prepare their own meals using the single-burner range, microwave and fridge kitchenette. Basic cooking utensils and cleaning supplies are provided. Students may also explore affordable restaurants within the city for additional meal options.
Homestay
Students who live with homestay families receive breakfast and dinner daily.
Excursions
Students in Kyoto can:
- Visit world-famous temples and shrines, such as Kiyomizu Temple and Yasaka Shrine, and learn about the depth of their history and religious significance
- Take a day trip to Nara with its great-seated Buddha in Todaiji temple, the world’s largest wooden structure; Kasuga Taisha Shrine with its thousands of stone lanterns; and the Deer Park, where they will “bow” in thanks as you offer the deer biscuits
- Enjoy an excursion to nearby Kobe and World Heritage Site, Himeji Castle, to experience the life of a 17th-century warrior
