Program Description

The program is based in Central Europe, specifically in Pribor, the Czech Republic, with overnight visits to Vienna and Prague. In this interdisciplinary study abroad course, students will have the opportunity to live, learn and create artwork and writing in Pribor, the birthplace of Sigmund Freud, the founder of psychoanalysis. At the same time, students will have the opportunity to work with faculty from the Art/Design and English/Writing departments and they will also have the chance to create in the space where Jane McAdam Freud, the late internationally acclaimed artist, exhibited her sculptures and paintings. Students will live in the town square, which contains the Sigmund Freud Museum and the Jane McAdam Freud Gallery, along with various cafes and a Catholic church.

The program will also offer weekend trips to Prague, the cultural hub that houses the Franz Kafka Museum and features many other significant sites related to music, theatre, cuisine and the arts.

This course will coincide with the 150th anniversary of Sigmund Freud’s birth and a special exhibition of Jane’s artwork, providing students with an opportunity to participate in these activities and potentially exhibit their creations.
