Online Course Success

Be sure you are scheduling time each week to work on your online course. Ensure you understand the course expectations, including assignments, assignment structure, communication with classmates and communication with your professor. Need more support? Schedule an appointment with a Success Coordinator!

Are you organizing your class work in one place where you can see it?

Try using a desk or white board calendar to help you in making sure that you write all of your assignments and due dates down and cross them off when you are done. This way you know when you have completed your work and that you haven’t missed anything.

How are your professors communicating to you?

Not every professor has the same methods or expectations. The Student Success Center sent out a graphic organizer for students to use so they know where each professor is posting and their preferred communication method. Try something similar! This way you will be organized in each course and know the best way to connect when you have questions.

Are all professors keeping in touch and communicating clearly?

If you feel that you are not understanding the material correctly or have questions on an assignment, please reach out to those specific professors and ask them for help.

Have you made a schedule for each class day?

Try and make schedules for each day so you know how to organize your time and ensure you are getting all your assignments done. Be sure that you are scheduling breaks for yourself as well! The skills you are learning during this challenging time will help you in the future and provide perfect examples for job interviews—time management, communication skills, organization, and taking control.

Are you using all your available resources?

You can schedule tutors at any time and sign up for both in person and virtual sessions in the courses you need extra support in. Tutors are available through the blackboard shell in your 100 and 200 level courses. If there isn’t an available tutor or date and time that works with your schedule, then you can request a tutor! Most professional tutors are available 24/7 if you need them.

Do you feel that you need helpful tips and strategies when completing online courses?

Try accessing our Online Learning Guide for ideas on how to navigate through transitioning to online learning—especially if you’ve not taken an online course before!

Having a hard time focusing/need a way to unwind when feeling stressed and overwhelmed?

Try using mediation and relaxation resources to help! This is a great way to relax your mind and focus on yourself. When making your daily schedules, make sure you are scheduling time for yourself to decompress from your classes, assignments, and any other stressors that you may be experiencing.
