Electronically Access the 1098-T
- Visit the ECSI website
- Select the "Learn More About Your 1098 Tax Documents" box
- Select the "Want to access your 1098-T or 1098-E tax form? Click here to sign in or create a user profile" box.
- Get more detailed instructions by selecting "Click here to Learn About Your 1098-T Tax Document."
- Under the "Register" form, follow prompts to create a new profile.
- You will need your Heartland key from the communication you received when you enrolled to obtain your 1098-T electronically
- If you are unable to locate this key:

Due to tax identification/social security number, the form is not available to be emailed.

If you have recently obtained a Social Security Number or Taxpayer Identification Number or need to make an adjustment to information on file. Submit your SSN/TIN information online. For your security, SSN/TINs are not accepted via email or fax.
Purpose of SSN/TIN
The United States Internal Revenue Service (IRS) requires a valid Social Security Number (SSN) or Tax Identification Number (TIN) to provide you with a Tax Form 1098-T for any given tax year.
Per IRS: Eligible educational institutions file Form 1098-T for each student enrolled and for whom a reportable transaction is made. Insurers file this form for each individual to whom they made reimbursements or refunds of qualified tuition and related expenses.

Annually, during November/December, the Office of Student Accounts will issue 2 notifications related to production of the 1098-T form:
- Requests to students for whom the University does not have a tax filer ID (Social Security Number) on University record. A W9S form will be required to be submitted to the Office of the Registrar to secure records are promptly updated.
- Students are notified of the opportunity to enroll in the electronic 1098-T forms with ECSI, deadline is January 1.
Forms will be generated for registered students for the applicable calendar year. All forms are issued by January 31, annually.
All forms will be issued by January 31. Two options for delivery; by mail to address on University record or opt-in for the electronic version by January 1.
If you would like to receive your 1098-T form electronically, please give your consent by following the link provided below and following the step by step instructions.
The 1098-T forms will be provided by the 31st of January, annually. If electronic consent is not received by January 1, the 1098-T will be mailed to the current address on file with Sacred Heart University.

The benefits to receiving electronic notification are:
- Provides access to the form 1098-T earlier than the traditional mailing process.
- Online delivery eliminates the chance that the 1098-T will get lost, misdirected, or delayed during delivery, or misplaced once the student receives it.
- Signing up for online access is easy and secure.
- Students can access their 1098-T form while traveling or away from their home address.
To give consent to receive your 1098-T form electronically:
- Fill out the Electronic Consent Application
- Follow the step-by-step instructions on the web form.
- Check the box and click submit.

For calendar years 2017 & prior, Sacred Heart University completed Box 2. Box 2 is the total of qualifying tuition and fees
Per IRS regulations: Effective with the 2018 calendar/tax year, Box 2 is no longer available; Box 1 will be reported. Box 1 is the total of payments received for the calendar year's qualifying tuition and fees. Learn more about the IRS definition of qualifying tuition and fees.
