St. Brigid Student Poet Laureate

The St. Brigid Student Poet Laureate and St. Francis of Assisi University Poet Laureate programs celebrate poetry as a vital expression of the Catholic intellectual tradition and the liberal arts. Inspired by the witness of St. Brigid, whose spirituality was deeply rooted in the beauty of creation, and St. Francis of Assisi, whose poetic praise of the natural world continues to shape Christian ecological imagination, the program highlights poetry as a way of attending to the mystery, beauty and sacredness of the world around us.

Each year, a Student Poet Laureate and a University Poet Laureate (faculty or staff) are selected to serve as creative voices within the Sacred Heart community. Through original poetry, readings and participation in campus events, the Poet Laureates help cultivate a deeper appreciation for poetry as a way of reflecting on the natural world, the human condition and our shared responsibility to care for creation.
