Why’d You Choose SHU?
SHU actually wasn’t my first choice of schools. Back when I went to visit SHU in 2011, it was a lot smaller compared to what it has grown into. As soon as I visited the campus, I fell in love. I instantly felt like SHU could be a home away from home. At that moment I knew I had to go there. It wasn’t just the campus that drew me to SHU. I felt SHU aligned with the goals I wanted to achieve once I began my undergraduate studies. I am so happy to see the evolution of SHU and the many more opportunities it has to offer for prospective SHU students!
What do you do now?
I’m an Occupational Therapist. Currently I work in the pediatric setting at a pre-school, but if the stars align I would love to work in a hospital setting and specialize in gerontology. I really have a passion for the geriatric field!
Advice to Underrepresented SHU Students
Beat the odds and chase that dream no matter the obstacles. It is said that Latinas have the lowest percentage of graduate degrees compared to all women of other non-Hispanic racial groups combined. In fact, just 4% of Latinas completed a Master’s degree or higher by age 29. Me being Latina, I am proud to have never given up on my dreams and live my best life doing a job that I love to do every day.
